Obama's Toxic Approvals: 46% Believe He 'Knowingly Deceived' Public on ObamaCare

    Kyle Becker | On 13, Nov 2013

President Obama’s approval ratings and support for his signature healthcare law are crumbling beneath him, as a second-term funk sets in that he is unlikely to ever recover from.

Quinnipiac polled 2,545 registered voters by phone nationwide and found some devastating results, which will be hit in rapid-fire succession. Most glaring – nearly half believe Obama deceived them.

Health insurance is an extremely personal matter; and it is unclear how the president thought he could put one over on the public, given the White House knew in 2010 millions would lose their insurance plans.

The demographic breakdown is brutal: a huge majority of Independents (60-34) believe Obama is dishonest; while a surprising number of Blacks (16-81) and Hispanics (49-51) believe likewise.

While most Democrats believe the Obama presidency is competent, 62% of Independents disagree. Furthermore, only a slight majority of Hispanics believe it has been, and most Women do not.

As reported by many polling firms, President Obama appears to have fallen through the 40% floor. In a point too fascinating to be passed up here, Alex Roarty of National Journal comments:
In fact, no president in the last 60 years has watched his approval ratings bounce back during their second term. Either they didn’t make it to another stint in office (Ford, Carter, and George H.W. Bush), never dipped in the first place (Eisenhower and Clinton) or were removed from office at the nadir of their popularity (Nixon). Lyndon Johnson recovered somewhat, but only after announcing he would not seek another term. Ronald Reagan dropped from the low 60s to the high 40s amid the Iran-Contra scandal, and his popularity never recovered entirely until his last months in office. But it also never fell to lows experienced by Truman or Bush.
Hope and change? Not so much. More like “forward” into the public approval abyss.

That’s right – a majority of moderates disapprove of President Obama. Not Independents, who are sometimes filled with disenchanted conservative Republicans. But moderates.

This is really portentous for the 2014 elections. While 77% of Republicans believe ObamaCare will make things worse, only 42% of Democrats believe it will improve matters, and 46% think no difference. When it comes to the Democrats, a status quo, crisis of confidence mindset appears to be setting in.

Now would be the time to start panicking, Democrats.
