Over 20 Mexico Murders in One Day

Mexico, Aug 15 (Prensa Latina) Escalating violence in Mexico has left 21 deaths Thursday in six states of this country.

In the convulsive Chihuahua, in the north of Mexico, 12 people were murdered by organized crime gangs, six of them in the bordering city of Juarez.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon called the National Public Security Council to step up efforts to end the wave of criminality.

"We all have something to do in the combat against criminals," stressed the President during a visit to Puebla state.

He emphasized the urgency to stop impunity, under which drug cartels operate, through toughening the criminal legislation including life imprisonment for kidnappers.
