An odd memory from my teenage years was the first time I heard the term “erectile dysfunction” mentioned on television. It was said by the man who was formerly a candidate for the highest office in the land, this was a man so well-known that he had 51% name recognition 15 months before the presidential election, the former senior senator from Kansas.

It was an awkward moment for me. Anyone who was in DC at that point understood that the lines between government and business interests had long been blurred. Many far-removed from DC, such as in my native Chicago, also understood that idea. But I had somehow missed that memo up until that point in my life and therefore was surprised to see that message broadcast on television.

The message was below the surface of the commercial: “a politician will use the goodwill he built-up talking about his values with voters in order to cash in with a corporation.” Of course, it was just a Viagra advertisement, but in retrospect – the uncomfortable topic of impotence and the idea that a trusted politician was hawking drugs on television combined disharmoniously in me and didn’t fit the mental schema I used to understand politicians and government.

After losing the presidency, Bob Dole, instead of fading away, decided to break radio silence by doing commercials. After spending so much time in the spotlight and feeling like you matter, it must be trying to suddenly go out of the spotlight and feel like you no longer matter. We may soon see Mitt Romney at the end of his political rope, longing for the spotlight, and probably making similarly poor decisions.

Because here’s the thing – Mitt Romney doesn’t inspire. He’s moderately Republican, moderately Democratic, and the worst of both parties in one – the bailout, the wars, the Fed, lots of support from Wall Street and big corporate lobbyists. He’s exactly the kind of candidate Americans do not want, and left with the choice of Obama or that kind of corporatist, uninspiring, merely tolerable candidate, it will be Obama who wins in November in a resoundingly uninspiring election – one corporatist candidate against another.

An Iowan Addresses the Need for Electability
Since attending the Iowa caucuses on January 3, 2012, I’ve been hearing individual voters stand up and speaking publicly about how Mitt Romney is the only electable option.

Before anyone in the U.S. had voted, thirty minutes before Iowans in his precinct were to cast their votes, a middle-aged man with a palsy stood up and delivered a heartwarming and effective speech about how Mitt Romney is the only challenger electable enough to dethrone the vile King Barack. While his premise was flawed, it is worth noting that he so passionately delivered himself that disability and unpolished speaking skills were not to his disadvantage, but were in fact an asset in winning over his audience. Even my ardent pro-liberty heart was momentarily softened to the plea of this Romneyite. “Vote for the electable Mitt Romney,” was his message.

My gawd!! What does electable even mean – bland? Unprincipled? Uninspiring? Tolerable? Whatever “electable” means when it’s used to refer to candidates in this way, it’s actually the opposite of the dictionary definition of electable as the 1976, 1980, 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008 presidential elections have shown. Some are so eager to pervert the idea of electability that it’s almost as if we need a new word.

“Neo-” Might Be A Good Prefix to Use
Neo-liberal (big government at home and abroad, pro-NAFTA, anti-market, pro-corporate welfare, reduced civil liberties, warfare state, legislated morality) is arguably the opposite of a liberal (when you are talking about the progressive use of the word in America). Neo-conservative (big government at home and abroad, pro-NAFTA, anti-market, pro-corporate welfare, reduced civil liberties, warfare state, legislated morality) is the opposite of a conservative (strictly limited and constitutional government).

You have noticed that words have come to be so intentionally mangled for political gain that some, in an effort to more effectively communicate, append modifiers such as “classical” to liberal (also very different from a liberal when used in the progressive sense) to define that their idea of liberalism predates what is currently fashionable. Or “paleo” is sometimes added to conservative.

The person who is tried-and-true in his values ends up being the crackpot in this scenario, because he needs to go around dealing with the burden of explaining a new word to someone. All-the-while, the one who is perverting the original word (e.g. neo-liberals, neo-conservatives) is able to blamelessly co-opt the term.

When speaking about Mitt Romney, I advise the use of the word neo-electable to better express what you really mean, as in “No, I’m sorry Mitt Romney is not electable, he is neo-electable.” The person you are talking to will eagerly listen up ready to learn something new. You see, we need to call Romney what he is – a neo-conservative (the opposite of a conservative), who against Barack Obama will be neo-electable (the opposite of electable). And Barack Obama is not a liberal, the way his base considers the term, Barack Obama is a neo-liberal (the opposite of a liberal) and against Ron Paul, Obama too is neo-electable (the opposite of electable). But I diverge. Let us return to the main point.

How Long Will It Be Before Mitt Romney is Doing ED Commercials?
This depends on several factors. Will Ron Paul supporters more fervently rally to Ron Paul’s aid (as I explain the lack of, the need for, and reason for in this essay)? If so, Mitt Romney can be expected to be doing ED commercials by mid-October.

Will Mitt Romney come to his senses and recognize his own neo-electability and ask to be Ron Paul’s vice president ( as I explain in this essay)? If so, Mitt Romney might have another shot at the presidency in four years.

Will Ron Paul supporters not rally to Ron Paul’s aid, leaving him by the wayside, only to become the greatest president who never was? If so, Mitt Romney will be doing ED commercial by mid-November 2012, because, again, he’s neo-electable.

But Mitt Romney Looks Young And Strapping – So Presidential
Erectile dysfunction can even affect people who look young and strapping. When I say “making ED commercials” though, I don’t actually mean “making ED commercials.” I just mean – methods of using government influence for corporate gain. It’s taking the undeserved trust the American people have shown a politician and whoring it out in order to make money, as opposed to using it to advance a set of shared values.

Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum are walking ED commercials. George H.W. Bush is a little less needy looking, but still a walking ED commercial. They all wait ready to welcome Mitt Romney into their club – in October, in November, or, if he’s smart, in four, eight, or even twelve years after spending a term interning for the principled Ron Paul.

Maybe Ron Paul Really Is Winning

There is speculation that Paul would agree to work with the Romney campaign if there is a chance to work his son, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), into the picture.
The evidence is in: Ron Paul has almost no chance of becoming the Republican Presidential nominee. But the way in which the candidate has shaped the primary season is much more of a story than his campaign’s failure to win Republican beauty contest popular votes throughout the Nation. A vote for Paul, even this late in the game, is not a throwaway.

Observing media-declared front-runner Mitt Romney’s relentless and ever-changing attempts to relate to voters in different areas of the country offers a clear case for Paul support. To his own detriment, Romney has tried on several occasions to seem like a normal American. However, he has succeeded only in telling the Nation that he:

• Hangs around with people who own NASCAR teams,
• Doesn’t think $347,000 is very much money,
• Can afford a casual $10,000 bet,
• Thinks corporations are people,
• And has an odd relationship with grits and the word “ya’ll.”

Romney is not America’s Average Joe. He is, in fact, debatably guilty of the very same aloofness toward what goes on outside of the political and financial centers in the country for which conservatives often criticize President Barack Obama.

The campaigns of both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum have picked up on the disconnect between Romney and the average American, and they both changed their tactics to use it to their benefit. Gingrich used Tuesday night’s Romney disappointments in Alabama and Mississippi to call into question Romney’s status as the inevitable GOP nominee.

“One of the things tonight proves is that the elite media’s efforts to convince the Nation that Mitt Romney is inevitable just collapsed,” Gingrich told supporters in Birmingham, Ala.

Rick Santorum won both of the States in what many people see as a game changer in the primary.

As the contest drags on, the campaign strategies of all candidates are beginning to sound like the one the Paul campaign announced it would publically pursue from the beginning: Amass delegates with less focus on popular votes. The drawn-out primary season, however, is making it more likely after each contest that none of the candidates will have the necessary 1,144 delegates that it takes to get the nomination.

A Gingrich campaign insider has now floated the idea that a Gingrich-Santorum alliance may be in the works for the Presidency and the Vice Presidency, and rumors are resurfacing that the Romney and Paul camps are in talks, though the details are unclear.

There is speculation that Paul would agree to work with the Romney campaign — advising his tireless supporters to do so as well — if there is a chance to work his son, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), into the picture. This is good for conservatives, because the younger Paul is expected to launch his own bid for the Presidency in 2016. So, for now, a vote for Ron Paul may be a vote for reigning in Romney’s big-government tendencies — anathema to many conservative voters — with the help of the libertarian-leaning Representative from Texas. With the support of hardline conservatives and Paul’s younger, more libertarian-minded base, Romney might actually have a shot against Obama in the general election.

Rand Paul may be the icing on the cake for conservative voters (he has wooed the Tea Party) and Ron Paul (if he can impress his father’s ardent supporters) as a strong candidate for 2016 for whom GOP voters can collectively stomach casting a ballot.

-needed right away. The Missouri escapade was simply indecent and looked mighty illegal to me. Basically it came down to arresting the competition! The police, the Missouri GOP, those participating in this farce need to face a class action lawsuit. I think this is the best solution, but would certainly like to hear your thoughts and ideas!

I have suspected for a long time that the GOP RINOS are the ones responsible for re-engineering all campaign totals so that the virtual rug is pulled out from under Ron Paul.

These RINOS are no different than the Democrats. They don’t care one wit about any of We the People.

They are selfish, double speakers doing exactly what Vladimir Lenin once said, “Words are one thing, actions are another.”

If Ron Paul is not on the ballot for November 2012, I will abandon voting altogether. My vote, if submitted, will be stolen and used, without my knowledge, someplace else. I will not aid and abet in their crimes to destroy our country.

Drudge and "Tricky Mitt" in Missouri



The Drudgepacker Report and Romneyites form a perfect team. Following the tactics of the brownshirts, Romney's team shut down a certain win in the Missouri Caucuses for Rick Santorum, and the Fudge Report ran cover for them.

Who benefits from delayed results in Missouri? Certainly not Rick Santorum, who easily won the state's primary election and was all but guaranteed to win the caucuses as well. With Missouri, Santorum would have up to 304 delegates. This combined with Newt's 131 delegates and Paul's 48 delegates would have exposed Romney's purported frontrunner status for the fraud it is.

Current Delegate Count WITH Missouri (1144 Needed)

Mittster Romney: 495 delegates
Rick Santorum: 304 delegates
Newt Gingrich: 131 delegates
Ron Paul: 48 delegates


Romney Delegates: 495
Anti-Romney Delegates: 483


Then comes the following:

March 20, Illinois (67 Delegates): Romney pulls 37% (24 delegates) at best. Anti-Romney coalition pulls 43 delegates.

March 24, Louisianna (46 delegates): Romney comes in third with 25% (11 delegates). Team Anti-Romney 35 delegates.

Romney Delegates: 530
Anti-Romney Delegates (with Missouri): 561

Taking Missouri out of play for a few more months was criticial to Romney's Fundraising efforts. The man admits he is short on cash. Who wants to donate to someone who can't win at the Republican Convention? All Romney had to do was:


1. Disrupt major caucuses in the state with a few well placed Romneyites holding Ron Paul signs. I believe he did this in St Charles, the biggest caucus in the state.

2. Get his people in place in the Republican Party Leadership of Missouri to close down the caucuses on a minor point of order (videotaping caucuses).

This was exactly what took place:

"Voters here in St. Charles County did not get a say on Saturday in who will be the next Republican presidential nominee after a disorderly caucus on Saturday caused organizers to adjourn before delegates were selected.

The unrest began as the caucus at Francis Howell North High School was called to order more than a hour late, then delayed again when a member of the crowd refused to put away a video camera, as required by the rules outlined by the local Republican Party." (Source)

The Drudgepacker Report was no less serviceable to Romney with its outrageous headlines linked to unrelated articles:

* "The Impossible Dream" (complete with Santorum photo with hand outstreched and grasping at air) led the Drudgepacker Headlines. A clear attempt to paint him as a distant long-shot.

*DELEGATE CHAOS AT MO CAUCUS... The actual article was written about days leading up to the Caucus. No chaos could be detected in the article. Just comments on why people would vote for a specific candidate.

* Elderly Voters Shut Out... More BS. This is about a massive turnout for an event where Santorum spoke that didn't have enough seats. Pathetic!!!

* Unrest... This article is about the removal of two tresspassers and one cameraman at the St. Charles Caucus. NO looting. NO burning cars. NO police Barricades. NO civil unrest. Period.

* 'Mass hysteria'... A few troublemakers that I believe were Romneyites dressed in Ron Paul clothing. For mass hysteria, watch a B disaster movie, you'll find none here. Albeat, the headline was provided by the LA Times.

* "Rich Rico"... Meaning "Rich Rick" in Spanish. Shows Santorum sitting on what looks like a lawn chair in his swimsuit, at a public beach. Unlike Romney, who apparently does all his sunbathing behind 10 foot walls with barbed wire and a private security force. Romney rents a mansion and Rick rents a lawn chair. Mor epathetic journalism.

If the kings of yellow journalism were alive today, Pullitzer and Hearst, they would have relegated Drudge to writing advertising for things that don't work or perform as advertised. Romney and Drudge are a perfect fit. They both over-promise and under-deliver.

Mitt Romney Thursday denied he and U.S. GOP presidential rival Ron Paul have discussed a deal for Romney to get support from Paul convention delegates.

WASHINGTON (UPI) — Mitt Romney Thursday denied he and U.S. GOP presidential rival Ron Paul have discussed a deal for Romney to get support from Paul convention delegates.

Amid reports that the two campaigns have talked about Paul releasing his delegates to Romney in exchange for considerations — possibly including a spot for Paul’s son on the Republican ticket as vice presidential nominee — Romney said Thursday no such talks have been held, The Hill reported.

Ron Paul, a member of Congress from Texas, is a libertarian Republican. His son, Rand Paul, is a freshman U.S. senator from Kentucky.

“Ron Paul is a very independent sort as you know,” Romney told a Fox News Radio interviewer. “We have only seen each other briefly in halls; we have never had a sit-down discussion.”

The former Massachusetts Governor said he will support the Republican Presidential nominee, no matter who the party chooses at its convention in August in Tampa, Fla.

“There are four of us on the stage, I will support whoever our nominee is, I will go to work and help whether it is Newt Gingrich, or Rick Santorum or Ron Paul,” he said. “I want one of these people to replace Barack Obama; I think I am the best person to do that.”

Romney — who has been generally regarded as the front-runner for the GOP nomination — has been amassing convention delegates during the primary season but runs the risk of heading into the convention without having first secured the 1,144 delegates required to clinch the nomination.

AN ANALYSIS

Ron Paul supporters get a bad rap, especially from establishment Republicans. They are often branded as a raucous bunch who obnoxiously disrupt order at conventions and gatherings and are accused of disrupting the entire 2012 primary process. When did it become so out of line to be passionate about a political cause?

The way Paul supporters anger establishment Republicans when they use party rules to assert the voice they have been denied by the media at conventions throughout the Nation reminds one of an obscure Norwegian film released in 2006. “The Bothersome Man” a film wherein a 40-year-old man arrives in an idyllic city where the inhabitants are emotionally sterile and simply “going through the motions” of life is not exactly a political film (the film is very bizarre and not in English), but it’s a good analogy for the GOP establishment. In recent primaries the situation has been sterile, as well-mannered and politically lukewarm Americans shuffled into voting places cast their popular vote beauty contest ballots and went home to observe the results on FOX or CNN. A few people who better understood the process, or had been working closely with the campaigns, were largely the only ones involved in the business of delegates and conventions.

This election season, however, has been different. The way in which the Paul campaign has educated its voters and trained them to involve themselves more deeply in the process could be viewed as a public service as well as a campaign tactic. Establishment Republicans don’t see it that way, though, because it has thrown a wrench in their otherwise comfortable process.

Take this blog post outlining the experience of an establishment Republican in Minnesota at his local convention, “Ron Paul’s Devious Plan to Steal the Presidency,” from Hillbuzz:

The Paulbots, who did NOT submit their names prior to the convention, were now demanding that they should added to the list of nominees that very day. This is normally outside of the rules, but the Paulbots (there were at least 50 of them spread throughout the auditorium) through a suspension of the rules, demanded that they be added to the list of nominees. It was difficult to override their votes, as they had descended en masse to this event, and the unsuspecting non-Paul delegates were confused as to what was going on!

After some manipulative moves on the floor, and by using Roberts Rules of order AGAINST the Convention Chair, they were able to add all of their names to the delegate nominations.

I’ve never seen such unmitigated rudeness at a convention before. The Paulbots would leap to their feet screaming “Point of order!” every time they thought that the chair was being dismissive of them.

The entire process was chaotic and psychotic, and the non-Paul delegates were stunned. They didn’t understand what was happening, and I tried to explain to an elderly woman from my precinct that this entire coup was PLANNED, and that the Paulbots had every intention of flooding the State delegates with Paul supporters.

Sounds like Paul’s people crashed the party. In reality, the writer of the blog post was made uncomfortable by something else altogether: He is unable to understand how these “rude” Paul supporters were able to take control of a process where power is usually wielded by only a few like-minded participants. Not only havethe Paul supporters turned the usual sheep herding into a “chaotic and psychotic” process, they’ve done it in the name of a man who strikes fear into the hearts of GOP talking heads like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly, whose words are political gospel for the establishment Republicans accustomed to leading these events. Paul has pulled back the curtain of the political process for many young and politically passionate Americans. What is so bad about that?

Last week, reports similar to the above-mentioned blog post were abundant, as Paul supporters were accused of muddying county conventions in Iowa and Colorado. Establishment attendees in Iowa claimed that Paul’s supporters were using illegal tactics, encouraged by the Paul campaign, to gain delegate seats.

“They were abrasive, offensive, and self-centered,” Kevin McLaughlin, GOP chairman in Polk County, told ABC.

The chairman, a veteran of many conventions, went on to say that the scene was very unusual in his experience, but that Paul was not going to succeed.

The Paul campaign says that the complaints from establishment Republicans are “silly” and based on the fact that Paul’s people have out-organized the campaigns of other candidates.
In fact, Drew Ivers and David Fischer, co-chairs of Paul’s Iowa campaign, told supporters in an email that the key to “to get elected” is “to be aggressive.”

“Remember, to get elected, the first key is to be aggressive so make sure you jump up as soon as nominations are open. If there are any votes, make sure you vote ONLY for Ron Paul supporters. A vote for anyone who is not a Ron Paul supporter could cost us seats at the District and State Conventions.”

It is natural to reject change and outside influence in a closed system, but to give the GOP some advice in the words of Bob Dylan, “You better start swimming or you’ll sink like a stone, the times they are a changin’.” In 2008, lukewarm, establishment Republicans picked a lukewarm, establishment Republican candidate who exemplified much of what the wildly unpopular Republican President before him stood for. Meanwhile his challenger promised “hope,” “change” and a new way of doing things in Washington. People who were never politically involved flocked to support the latter because of a growing frustration with the status quo. He got elected, and those supporters got no “hope,” no “change” and the same old business coming out of Washington. They are angry and they’re rejecting the false left-right paradigm like never before.

There is one man who can and has energized many of those disenfranchised voters. He just happens to have an “R” next to his name; but many of his supporters don’t look like Republicans and maybe they don’t act like Republicans, so they are being shunned. Those voters will likely stay home or cast protest votes for Paul in November, and America will see how whichever lukewarm, establishment Republican candidate’s turn it is to get the nomination holds up against President Barack Obama in the general election. Paul’s people know how things will turn out; that’s why they act so rudely. This is no time for polite politics.
