Some Good News for a Change... If We Don't Mess it Up

The Democrats are incredibly bad at governing. How bad? Just look at recent history. Jimmy Carter and company did such a bad job that he was a one term president. What about Bill Clinton? The very first election after Clinton was elected, the American people voted in a Republican House and Senate. Now we have Barack Obama and the Democrats running everything, and it's beginning to show results.

Recent polling shows that Republicans are actually taking the lead on several key issues. This marks a dramatic change for Republicans and a chance to build some momentum going forward.... that is, if the GOP doesn't mess things up. Can they do it?

In a new poll released by Rasmussen Reports, "Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on six out of 10 key issues, including the top issue of the economy."

This is a significant change, and it just shows that the American people are paying attention when Democrat-controlled Washington does not act American. It is not the American way to take control of banks and businesses. It is not the American way to pit one socio-economic group against another. We are all Americans, right? And, it is surely not the American way to put more and more control in a central, federal government. Yet, this is exactly what the Democrats are doing.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 45% now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues, while 39% trust Democrats more.

This is the first time in over two years of polling that the GOP has held the advantage on this issue. The parties were close in May, with the Democrats holding a modest 44% to 43% edge. The latest survey was taken just after General Motors announced it was going into bankruptcy as part of a deal brokered by the Obama administration that gives the government majority ownership of the failing automaker.

Voters not affiliated with either party now trust the GOP more to handle economic issues by a two-to-one margin.

A two to one edge with non-affiliated voters is HUGE! Passing the Democrats on the economy as an issue is HUGE. Of the ten issues survey, respondents trusted the Democrats more on Health Care, Education, and Social Security. The two parties were tied on Abortion. The Republicans polled higher on Economy, Taxes, Iraq, National Security, Government Ethics, and Immigration.

Now, keeping in mind those results, let's look at another Rasmussen Reports poll http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_ ... _of_issues on the importance of issues. Here's how the issues stacked up as far as whether respondents felt a particular issue was "very important."

    Economy -- 81%
    Gov't Ethics/Corruption -- 76%
    Social Security -- 59%
    Nat'l Security/War on Terror -- 58%
    Taxes -- 54%
    Education -- 52%
    Health Care -- 49%
    War In Iraq -- 48%
    Immigration -- 42%
    Abortion -- 39%

The results are very significant. What they show is that not only are Republicans leading in more issues now, Republicans are also leading on the issues important to the American people. Of the top five issues ranked in order of importance, the Democrats have an edge in voter trust in only one: Social Security. This is a tremendous opportunity for the Republicans.

What is also significant is how fast the tide is turning. People complain and send e-mails about "8 years of Bush and the Republicans." Of course they forget that the economy was doing just fine for most of that time, but that's a different story. Eight years of Bush and the Republicans compared to five months of Obama and the Democrats. It doesn't take the American people long to figure out how bad Democrat control is.

However, my last statement leads to a key realization. All of these trends and shifts are primarily due to people realizing how bad the Democrats are. It does not necessarily reflect how good the Republicans are. This means that Republicans have to show the American people that they have a plan... that they believe in the complete opposite of Obama's socialist agenda... that they believe in limited government, lower taxes, more freedom, the rule of law, and faith in the American people.

We have two big elections coming up that the entire nation will be watching: governors' races in New Jersey and Virginia. As it stands right now, Republicans are leading in both. In New Jersey, Republican challenger Chris Christie leads Democrat Gov. Jon Corzine 51% to 38%. In Virginia, Republican Bob McDonell leads all three Democrat challengers.

Republicans have a great opportunity to turn our country around. Americans see what the Democrats are doing, and it hasn't taken long at all. Government control of industry and banking are not things the voters associate with the American way, yet that is exactly what the Democrats are doing. Couple that with massive spending, huge deficits, and a foreign policy that focuses on how bad America is, and Republicans are in an ideal position.

Note to Republican leaders: please don't mess this up! Give us a conservative plan and stick with it. There is no point getting back into power if the American people will just vote you out because you are "more of the same." The two parties must be different! Start acting like it, and we can win!

Bush and Obama are on the same train!

Obama is an extension of Bush on crack!

I like what I have seen and heard from the Republicans via C-Span and in reading articles/books and even listening to liberal media sponsored debates. It is also helpful to go to Senate.org and find our first hand how the politicians are voting on issues of concern.

About Bush and the 8 year of Republican rule, the House and Senate were dominated by Democrats during the last two years of Bush's administration. So it was more like Loser Bush and the Democrats were working against America.......now it's Fascist Obama and the Democrats working against America. See the common denominator?

Previously I thought it was important to vote position not party, now, with the exception of never voting for any pro-Amnesty candidates, I think we have to vote Republican to restore a sense of balance. The Dem's have become so arrogant and seem to give themselves extravagant raises and benefits all charged to the tab of the suffering American people. The Democrats are money grubbers and Amnesty lovers, overall. I'm not amused or impressed with them as a group.

What most Republican politicians don't seem to get is that WE NEED CONSERVATIVES NOT RINOS! Rinos are so busy trying to please everyone that they end up pleasing no one!!!!
