Steve King to Trump: Bannon is a ‘lynchpin’

Steve King to Trump: Bannon is a ‘lynchpin’

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on Sunday tweeted at President Trump, calling White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon a “lynchpin” between the president and grassroots voters.

Reports emerged Saturday that Bannon is a risk of losing his role in the Trump administration.

Bannon reportedly met with Jared Kushner, Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law, at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., last week amid reported tensions between the two men.

Trump purportedly told the pair to “work this out” amid repeated policy disagreements between them — a recurring media narrative.

Bannon reportedly criticizes Kushner for his moderate beliefs, while the president’s son-in-law takes issue with the former’s fiery style and influence over the commander-in-chief.

The pair’s huddle followed reports last week that Trump is considering whether he should fire both Bannon and chief of staff Reince Priebus amid roiling tensions inside the White House.

Trump removed Bannon from the National Security Council (NSC) last week amid criticism his inclusion politicized the group.

Reports emerged Saturday that Priebus arranged last week’s huddle between Bannon and Kushner at Mar-a-Lago to soothe tensions between the pair.

The White House has repeatedly denied reports of internal strife, which have frequently dogged Trump’s administration since Inauguration Day.

“Once again, this is a completely false story driven by people who want to distract from the success taking place in this administration,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders told The New York Times on Friday when asked about Bannon and Kushner’s meeting.

Yesterday on one of the Sunday news shows, it was reported by Bill Kristol of the National Review, that the reports were wrong. It wasn't a "you work it out" between Bannon and Kushner, it was a work it out meeting between Bannon and Priebus.
