Jamyla Bolden, 9, was fatally shot in Ferguson Tuesday night

DeEris Brown has been charged with 2nd-degree murder and other related charges for the shooting death of Jamyla Bolden, 9, while she was in bed

FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A suspect is in custody regarding the shooting death of Jamyla Bolden.

According to court records, 21-year-old De'Eris Brown has been charged in the shooting death of Bolden after allegedly confessing he shot into her home.

Brown has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon: shooting at a building, armed criminal action, second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $750,000.

An arrest document states a witness identified Brown as the shooter and an informant also came forward stating the defendant admitted shooting into the home on the night of the murder.

The 9-year-old was doing her homework while seated on a bed in the 9200 block of Ellison when she was fatally shot around 9:30 p.m. on August 18.

According to police, the bullets came from outside of the home. Authorities do not believe it was a drive-by shooting and are unsure if it was targeted or random. Police believe Brown was by himself during the shooting.

Brown was arrested in 2014 after allegedly pulling a pistol on a Subway employee in the middle of the parking lot. Police said at the time that Brown called an employee of the store and said "I'm coming to your job and going to shoot up the place." Police say he later showed up and pointed the gun at the employee saying "come talk to my nine," referring to his gun. No one was seriously hurt in that incident.

Charges in the incident were later dismissed because prosecutors said the victim did not cooperate.

In March, Brown pleaded guilty to robbery charges and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but the sentence was suspended and he was placed on five-years probation.

(KMOV.com) – The mother of 9-year-old Jamyla Bolden recounted the night her daughter died in their home while she was working on homework.

“My son ducked down. He was behind the bed. That’s when I felt the blood on my legs,” Kendric Henderson said. “I didn’t feel the pain at first, but then I looked down and realized I was shot.”

She says she then yelled for someone to call 911 because she was shot, turned to Jamyla, but Jamyla wasn’t moving.

“At that point, I noticed Jamyla wasn’t saying anything. Usually when we hear the gunshots, she’s the first one who yells ‘Mom, they're shooting!’” Henderson said. “I went to check on her and as I looked over, she was laying on her stomach. She wasn’t moving.”
Henderson flipped her daughter over, but Jamyla was unconscious. That’s when she started shouting “Myla! Myla” over and over again.

"At quiet times, I can still hear the gunshots. I can still remember going to turn her over and her not moving," she said. "That's the main thing I remember: her not moving."

Right now, a $6,000 reward is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest in Jamyla’s death. Police initially offered a $5,000 reward, but the Fraternal Order of Police have offered an additional $1,000.

"With the way murder investigations go in St. Louis, to say I have faith is probably a lie," Henderson said as she fought back tears. "This is something we may never know why. My daughter is gone for no reason."
