Teen arrested after cab driver alerts police to alleged massacre plot

An Oklahoma high school student was arrested after a cab driver reported hearing him plot a Columbine-style shooting at his school, police said.

Timmy Eike, 18, who would have been a senior this fall at Woodward High School, was arrested Tuesday after police found a shotgun, rifle and 250 rounds of ammunition in his bedroom, according to KWTV, News 9.

'I did what I figured anybody else would have done.'

According to KWTV, court records show Eike bought those weapons illegally in the past month.

Law enforcement authorities were led to Eike by a cab driver who told the station he drove Eike to work at Walmart several times in recent weeks, and the teen spoke of killing people, hiding bodies and getting out of the country.

"I did what I figured anybody else would have done," said the cab driver, who wishes to remain anonymous.

Eike is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and lying to a licensed dealer about his mental condition, according to KSWO-TV.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A man who had recently separated from his wife shot his two children, killing his 7-year-old daughter, before committing suicide, prosecutors said.

A family member called police Saturday night after finding the bodies of 41-year-old Daryl Benway and his daughter, Abigail, in the master bedroom of their two-story Oxford home, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said.

Benway's 9-year-old son, Owen, was found shot in the head in the kitchen and was taken to UMass Memorial Children's Medical Center in serious condition. Owen has been in pediatric intensive care, a spokesman for Early said Sunday. He said he had no additional information about Owen Benway's condition, and a hospital spokeswoman would not comment.

Benway's wife, Kelleen, returned home after the shootings, unaware of what had happened, and found a swarm of police cruisers and television crews, Early said. She was taken to the children's hospital, where authorities told her the fates of her children and husband.

Neighbors told the Telegram & Gazette that Daryl Benway's brother Shawn lived on the first floor of the home with his wife and mother. Shawn Benway called 911 to report the shootings, Early said.

Early said he couldn't speculate on a motive. He said the Benways separated weeks ago but were still married.

No restraining orders had been filed against Daryl Benway, and he had no criminal record, the DA said. He had a gun license that expired in 1999, Early said.

On Daryl Benway's Facebook page, his profile picture posted in December showed him with his family in front of a Christmas tree. He described the woman next to him as "my Beautiful wife Kelleen." Owen stood in front of him in a white dress shirt and red plaid tie, while brown-haired Abigail wore a black and white dress with a black hair bow.

Daryl Benway listed his place of employment as TJX Cos., which operates discount retailers TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, as well as Ross Stores Inc.

Kent State student, 19, charged with posting tweet saying he's going to "shoot up" the campus

CLEVELAND - Police have arrested and charged a 19-year-old Kent State University student who posted a message on Twitter saying he planned to "shoot up" the campus.

WEWS-TV reports (Kent State University student charged with inducing panic after sending threatening tweet ) that William Koberna was arrested at his parents' home in Brunswick Sunday afternoon. He's been charged with inducing panic, a felony, and aggravated menacing.

A university spokesman said Sunday night the tweet was posted July 25.

Koberna is to be arraigned in court on Monday. He also faces hearings that can result in his suspension or dismissal from the university.

Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton said in a statement, "Our students, employees, and all those who come to campus should know that their safety is our top priority. Any threat to our campus community is taken seriously and immediately investigated."

QUINCY, Pa. (AP) — Hours after authorities began investigating the shooting deaths of three people in a central Pennsylvania home, the man later charged in the case admitted to state police that he'd "messed up."

The suspect, Kevin Cleeves of Waynesboro, said that in retrospect he never should have gone to the home of his estranged wife's boyfriend Friday night, even if he was concerned about the welfare of his 4-year-old daughter.

Because there, authorities alleged, he quarreled with his wife and her boyfriend in front of the girl and was told to leave but instead opened fire, shooting to death the two adults as well as the man's mother. He then fled with the girl 250 miles to neighboring Ohio, where he was arrested and his daughter was recovered safely.

Cleeves was charged with three counts of criminal homicide in the deaths of 25-year-old Brandi Cleeves, 28-year-old Vincent Santucci and 55-year-old Rosemary Holma and was awaiting an extradition hearing Monday. Court records listed no attorney for him.

Detectives in Ohio declined to say where his daughter, Leia, was on Sunday.

Kevin Cleeves, 35, was headed for Michigan in hopes of getting the girl to his aunt's house, according to an affidavit filed in court in Pennsylvania.

He called his aunt about an hour after the slayings, and he was "drinking and mad," she told police. He admitted to her that he was behind the shootings and she called police.

Cleeves got as far as Austintown, Ohio, just over the Pennsylvania state line, where he was arrested in a hotel parking lot.

Santucci's father, Vincent L. Santucci Sr., told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown, Md., that that his son, a chef, had only known Brandi Cleeves for little more than a month but they had a positive energy between them.

"He was a kind person, loving son and brother," he said.

Santucci Sr. said his former wife was a wonderful mother who had put herself through nursing school and found her calling as a nurse.

"We think she died running to help her son," he said.

Miami police search for man who reportedly shot 3 family members

MIAMI – Police in Miami were searching Sunday for a man accused of shooting at least three people in an apparent domestic dispute and who has said he will not surrender.

After wounding three victims, who were being treated at Jackson Memorial Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, officials were concerned he would wound more victims on the streets, according to the Miami Herald.

Erin Cash, 23, was wanted on charges of attempted murder.

"He has said he will not go down without a fight and those are very dangerous words," Miami-Dade Police Det. William Moreno said.

As of Sunday night, the suspect remained at large.

Moreno said the incident started when officers responded to a call at 8 a.m. from a woman who claimed she had been beaten by Cash, her child's father.

Cash then fled the scene with the couple's 3-year-old son and threatened to harm the mother and child, Moreno said. Cash later dropped off the boy at his mother's house unharmed.

Police said Cash then drove around looking for his girlfriend's brother and began firing shots once he found him. Another brother and a bystander were also shot as Cash continued shooting, police said.

Cash’s car, a white 2006 Pontiac with a damaged gas tank, was found parked in his home at 1255 NW 72nd St., the Miami Herald reports.

The detective said Cash told them he would not surrender.
