Three earthquakes rattle West Texas, including 5.0 magnitude quake felt in El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — Three earthquakes rattled parts of West Texas on Thursday morning, one of which registered a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale.

The quakes happened in roughly the same area, about 25 to 27 miles west of the small town of Mentone, in the Texas county of Loving.

The first earthquake happened just before 4 a.m. and registered 3.8 on the richter scale.


Then just after 9 a.m., a second and stronger earthquake struck. This time, people in El Paso - about 200 miles away - reported shaking.

Man took to social media to report what they felt.


The third one reported at 10:16 a.m. and registered 3.0 on the richter scale.

Valerie Flores and Christian Martinez captured the shake on their home surveillance cameras.

“Our carport frame was shaking without any wind or any physical interaction during the said time of earthquake” - Christian Martinez


No damage or injuries were reported, according to an emergency alert sent out to El Pasoans.
