Dunkin' Donuts to open 27 stores in California

CANTON, Mass. (AP) — Dunkin' Donuts plans to open 27 new stores in Southern California by 2015, the doughnut and coffee chain said Monday.

The stores will be opened by franchisees. The chain's parent company, Dunkin' Brands Group Inc., said in January that it was expanding into Southern California for the first time with 45 new restaurants.

Dunkin' Donuts has more than 10,500 restaurants in the U.S., including more than 3,100 in 30 countries around the world. But most of its U.S. stores are concentrated east of the Mississippi, particularly in the Northeast and Florida.

Dunkin' Brands, based in Canton, Mass., also owns the Baskin-Robbins ice cream chain.

Shares of the company rose 50 cents to $45.24 in midday trading Monday. The stock has changed hands between $28.97 and $46.50 in the past 52 weeks, and is up about 37 percent since the start of the year.
