EDINBURG - Officials are concerned about irregularities with a voting machine at a polling site in Mission.

The problems started on the first day of early voting in the district attorney's race.

A Mission school teacher pointed out the problem to authorities. The teacher noticed a discrepancy after he cast a ballot in favor of incumbent Rene Guerra. The voter noticed that Guerra's opponents name appeared instead, Hidalgo County Judge Ramon Garcia said.

The machine is inside Hidalgo County Precinct 3 headquarters on Breyfogle Street.

Garcia said the teacher reported that the machine made the same mistake twice. The man filed a complaint with the election administrator.

"We need to make sure we do a better job of calibration and better job inspecting these machines, all of them, before we put their out in the field," Garcia said.

Garcia said the machine has been reset.

Garcia said the irregularity is concerning, but doesn't believe anyone tampered with the machine. Garcia said election workers are monitoring another machine at a polling site in La Joya. He said the door to the polling site was left unlocked.

There is no word yet if an investigation will be launched into the DA's race.
