Walmart Offers Apology After Refusing To Bake Officer’s Cake

September 26, 2016

Last year a man walked into the Walmart bakery and asked to have a cake made with the confederate flag on it and they refused to. The same man asked to have an ISIS flag put on a cake and they willingly did so.

Walmart’s bakery is back at it again in recent news for apologizing for their refusal to make a cake for a customer. This time it for Walmart refusing to make a cake for a police officer’s daughter in McDonough, Georgia that had the Police “thin blue line” design on it.

The police officer’s daughter, who has remained anonymous, told radio host Todd Starnes that she went to a Walmart on Thursday to have a cake with the American flag in black and white with a blue stripe added in.

One of the employees at the bakery told the woman that “the design could be perceived as racist and nobody feels comfortable decorating the cake.” When the woman asked for a simpler cake, with just one blue line on a chocolate background, the employee said she didn’t “feel comfortable” making that design either.
When the lady asked the employee if there was something wrong with cops, the employee once again refused to make the cake.

Taylor Wilkes who is also a police officer and a family friend of the woman posted on Facebook about the cake incident and the post went viral.

Wilkes wrote, “There is nothing racist about the symbolism behind the “thin blue line,” yet people CHOOSE to make EVERYTHING about race,”

Wilkes said the Walmart manager met with the woman and made an apology that seemed insincere saying public pressure forced the response.

According to WTVM: A Walmart spokesperson said in a statement that “Our goal is to always take care of customers. But sometimes we misstep.” In a post on Sunday, Starnes wrote that the daughter took Walmart up on the offer to remake the cake. But the result “looked terrible.”
