What we can learn from Rush

HA! You thought I was talking Limbaugh, but this subject is about the band, who has foreseen the trouble we are in now. For those of you that aren't familiar with the band, please just read this. The current band has been around since 1975, just 3 guys making some of the BEST music ever played. Neil Peart, who is the drummer in my avatar picture has been the lyricist since 1975. He has written DOZENS of songs in the 30+ years that they have been together. There are plenty of lyrics that describe the problems we are facing today. If you have noticed, I recently changed my signature, because I thought it was appropriate. It is from the song "Territories" from the 1985 album "Power Windows" We see so many tribes, overrun and undermined, while their invaders dream, of lands they left behind. Better food, better people, better beer. Why move around the world, when Eden was so near? That definitely pertains to our illegal problem. If illegals love their homeland so much, why do they invade us while dreaming of what they left behind?

Another song that comes to mind is "Peaceable Kingdom" that was written not too long ago: All this time we're talking and sharing our rational view, A billion other voices are spreading other news, All this time we're living and trying to understand, Why a billion other choices are making their demands. Talk of a peaceable kingdom, Talk of a time without fear, The ones we wish would listen are never going to hear. To me, that speaks of the frustration that our side is currently having. There are MORE voices on our side, yet the ones we wish would listen, are never going to hear.

"Show, Don't Tell" is a perfect example of how the pro illegal groups can twist the truth to fit their own perceptions: You can twist perceptions, Reality won't budge, You can raise objections, I will be the judge and the jury. I'll give it due reflection, Watching from the fence, Give the jury direction, Based on the evidence, I, the jury The pro-illegals twisted views have attempted to sway the view point's of the majority, but as we see with the polls, WE are the jury based on the FACTS.

For those of you "lurkers" around that haven't had the guts to join ALIPAC yet, from the song "Something for Nothing": You don't get something for nothing, You can't have freedom for free, You won't get wise with the sleep still in your eyes, no matter what your dreams might be

Here's a song that was written in 1985 called "The Big Money" Sometimes building ivory towers, Sometimes knocking castles down, Sometimes building you a stairway, Lock you underground, It's that old time religion, It's the kingdom they would rule, It's the fool on television,
Getting paid to play the fool.
Looks like Neil had a handle on the situation 24 years ago! The big money has no problem selling out America's soul for profits!

Here's one of my favorites called "The Trees" which I think you guys can relate to: There is unrest in the forest, There is trouble with the trees, For the maples want more sunlight, And the oaks ignore their pleas. The trouble with the maples (And they're quite convinced they're right) They say the oaks are just too lofty, And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings if they like the way they're made, And they wonder why the maples can't be happy in their shade. There is trouble in the forest, And the creatures all have fled, As the maples scream 'Oppression!' And the oaks just shake their heads. So the maples formed a union and demanded equal rights, 'The oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light'. Now there's no more oak oppression, For they passed a noble law, And the trees are all kept equal, By hatchet, axe and saw.
    Sound familiar?

From the song "Color of Right" It's a hopeless situation, Lie awake for half the night, You're not sure what's going on here, But you're sure it isn't right. Pretty much how I've been feeling lately, especially with the pro illegal movement attempting to say the majority of American's support their cause.

I think of our movement every time I hear these lyrics from "We Hold On": How many times do we tire of all the little battles, Threaten to call it quits, Tempted to cut and run, How many times do we weather out the stormy evenings, Long to slam the front door, Drive away into the setting sun, Keep going on till dawn. How many times must another line be drawn, We could be down and gone, But we hold on. This one is for those who have felt frustrated with our cause. Out of all the pro-illegal stories we read, we continue to fight for what we believe in! We will NOT stop!

Here's a message for LaRaza and other pro-illegal groups: Well, I see you standin' there with your finger in the air, Everything we do, you wanna leave it up to you. Who do you think you are? You think you are a star? Tryin' to run the town always tryin' to put us down. Well, you think that you're right, You think you're out of sight. Tell me something, mister, Why'd you have to make us so uptight? Well, you say you've been tryin'
You know that you're lyin'. I think you need some groovin', Who do you think you're foolin', now?
Although these guys try to distort the truth, we know better! We KNOW the truth, and what they are trying to do.

From the song "Witch Hunt": They say there are strangers who threaten us, In our immigrants and infidels. They say there is strangeness too dangerous, In our theaters and bookstore shelves. That those who know what's best for us, Must rise and save us from ourselves. You can interpret these lyrics in multiple ways.

This used to be one of my signatures, which speaks VOLUMES about the society that Obama is trying to create: We've taken care of everything, the words you read, the songs you sing, the pictures that give pleasure to your eyes. It's one for all, and all for one, if we work together common son, NEVER need to wonder how or why. This was written in 1976 and it seems as if Neil knew what was coming.

I will leave you with a hugely inspirational song for those of you that have thought of giving up. This song LITERALLY saved my life, as it fell apart in 1999. It doesn't pertain to our cause, but it does give hope for those that have none. Proud swagger out of the school yard
    Waiting for the world's applause
    Rebel without a conscience
    Martyr without a cause

    Static on your frequency
    Electrical storm in your veins
    Raging at unreachable glory
    Straining at invisible chains

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
Staring down into a heartless sea
    Can't face life on a razor's edge
Nothing's what you thought it would be

All of us get lost in the darkness
Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
All of us do time in the gutter
Dreamers turn to look at the cars
Turn around and turn around and turn around
Turn around and walk the razor's edge
    Don't turn your back
And slam the door on me

It's not as if this barricade
    Blocks the only road
It's not as if you're all alone
    In wanting to explode

    Someone set a bad example
    Made surrender seem all right
The act of a noble warrior
Who lost the will to fight

And now you're trembling on a rocky ledge
Staring down into a heartless sea
Done with life on a razor's edge
Nothing's what you thought it would be

    No hero in your tragedy
    No daring in your escape
    No salutes for your surrender
    Nothing noble in your fate
    Christ, what have you done?

I just wanted to share with you guys only a FEW Rush songs that have inspired me to help carve the man I am today. Without these words, I would not be around today to share them with you. At a time in my life where I lost EVERYTHING, the temptation to give up was strong. The only thing that held me together was this band. I know William is a Rush fan, and I'm sure that the music speaks to him personally as it does to me. When I think of the song "Tom Sawyer", I think of William and what he has done, and all of the sacrifices he has made to give us a place to voice our opinions, and fight our cause. Though his mind is not for rent, Don't put him down as arrogant, His reserve, a quiet defense, Riding out the day's events. He is truly a "Modern day warrior."

For those of you that waste you time listening to Rush Limbaugh, I would suggest you listen to Rush the band, because they have more relevance.

You were doing so well. I read your post, every word including the song lyrics, and was impressed. I was thinking I might get a Rush CD, especially one that included written lyrics.

Then you had to go and write this:
For those of you that waste you time listening to Rush Limbaugh, I would suggest you listen to Rush the band, because they have more relevance.
I think you softened the statement a bit from what you originally wrote, which is better. (I've done that myself after reading something I wrote.)

Its fine to pride yourself on being a moderate, on NOT being partisan, not being an automatic cheerleader for either conservatives or liberals. I'm not either. I think many conservatives and big business are probably as much to blame for the immigration problem as liberals.

But just a suggestion: When you're in the middle of trying to inspire and motivate fellow ALIPACers to continue the fight, maybe it would help to refrain from Limbaugh-bashing in the same post. You probably expect many people here might find it offensive when you say they're wasting their time listening to him, and he's less relevant than the band you're trying to promote.

I would guess your very young, while music is for enjoyment I would consider not allowing it to set standards in my life. Try listening with an open mind to all things, both Rush and Limbaugh perhaps it would get you off that fence.
I'm old with many opinions few solutions.

    Well said.

Asfore Rush, the talkie, does anyone remember 3 or 4 months prior to the stock market crash, everyday Rush, Sean and a host of others on the right saying the economy is strong? The lefty talking heads were saying the opposite. Putting your money where your mouth is, in this case could have been costly.

When you are not affraid too kick your favorties from time to time, perhaps they will get better and provide more.

A cheerleader is not worth a darn unless you are married too her.

You're right! I am a moderate. I do NOT condone the ignorance of people ONLY because they support ONE party. Do you want to know why I dislike Rush Limbaugh? Here are a few examples:

"He discusses his service in Iraq, the wounds he suffered there, and he says to me in this ad, 'Until you have the guts to call me a 'phony soldier' to my face, stop telling lies about my service.' You know, this is such a blatant use of a valiant combat veteran, lying to him about what I said, then strapping those lies to his belt, sending him out via the media in a TV ad to walk into as many people as he can walk into." --denouncing an ad by VoteVets.org featuring Iraq war veteran Brian McGough by likening him to a suicide bomber

"He is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He's moving all around and shaking and it's purely an act. ... This is really shameless of Michael J. Fox. Either he didn't take his medication or he's acting." --on an ad by Michael J. Fox endorsing Claire McCaskill for Senate for supporting embryonic stem cell research (Watch video)

"And don't forget, Sherrod Brown is black. There's a racial component here, too. And now, the newspaper that I'm reading all this from is The New York Times, and they, of course, don't mention that." --on the 2006 Ohio Senate primary race involving then-Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who is white

"This is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation...I'm talking about people having a good time, these people, you ever heard of emotional release? You ever heard of the need to blow some steam off?" --on the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal

"Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river, too." --in 1995

"I am addicted to prescription pain medication." --in 2003

"Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society."

"We're not sexists, we're chauvinists -- we're male chauvinist pigs, and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to be. We think that's what women want."

"She comes to me when she wants to be fed. And after I feed her -- guess what -- she's off to wherever she wants to be in the house, until the next time she gets hungry. She's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it, which is why I say this cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life." --on his cat

"She sounds like a screeching ex-wife." --on Sen. Hillary Clinton

"I've been racking my brain. I've been trying to figure out how Bob Dole's luggage got on my airplane...I told the doctor, I said, 'Look, I'm worried about the next election.' ... A misunderstanding." --after he was detained by custom officials for possessing Viagra with a prescription made out in someone else's name

"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."

"They oughtta change Black History Month to Black Progress Month and start measuring it."

"Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."

"Sorry to say this, I don't think he's been that good from the get-go. I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well." --on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, while working as a commentator on ESPN

"The only way to reduce the number of nuclear weapons is to use them."

"There are more acres of forestland in America today than when Columbus discovered the continent in 1492."

Limbaugh is so ignorant, that as long as a republican runs things, he is just fine. It doesn't matter how bad a republican can be, he supports it. Me being a moderate, how can I support these ignorant statements?

My point is that Rush the band is FAR smarter and FAR more moderate than Limbaugh. We can learn things from the band, as you can see through their lyrics. These Rush Limbaugh quotes alone should sway you away for that sort of ignorance, unless you actually are as bigoted and hypocritical as he is.

Zepplin, yes, The Stones, no way. I will admit to Pink Floyd being a better band, but because Roger Waters is such a baby, they will never get back together for another tour. Rush has been around for 30+ years, and it because they are friends.

I honestly don't see how people could support Limbaugh. He is FOR the war on drugs, yet he is an addict of prescription drugs. You can't support someone ONLY because he is a republican, because that is WHY we are in the mess you see today.

Yes, I am young, and to quote Spock from Star Trek 6: Once a generation refuses to progress, they have OUTLIVED their usefulness. Another Spock quote: LOGIC is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.

You are more intolerant and close-minded than those you attack just because they disagree with your opinion.

If you can’t tolerate hearing the opinions of others who disagree with you, maybe you should not speak your own. You feel very free to bring up the topic of Rush Limbaugh and speak your opinion about him, then freak when others have the nerve to disagree with you.

Your reflex response about anyone who listens to Limbaugh being bigoted and hypocritical, reminds me of the pro-amnesty crowd’s reflex response to anyone not agreeing with the illegal invasion being a racist. There is really no logic behind it, you are just angry others have the gall to disagree with you and voice their own opinion.

Here are the accusations and assumptions you make about anyone who dares to disagree with your opinion of Limbaugh:

    They are:
    1. Ignorant
    2. They support only one party
    3. They listen to Limbaugh only because he is a Republican
    4. They refuse to “progressâ€
