Kellogg reaches settlement for misleading food labeling claims involving Kashi and Bear Naked brands

Thursday, May 15, 2014 by: Antonia

(NaturalNews) After years of backlash from health-minded consumers duped by false statements such as "Nothing artificial" and "100% natural" on Kashi and Bear Naked product labeling, Kellogg has finally reached a settlement.

Kellogg spokeswoman Kris Charles said that the company's Kashi and Bear Naked lines, which "provide comprehensive information about [our] foods to enable people to make well-informed choices," will no longer label some of its products as "100% Natural" and "All Natural." Additionally, the recent class-action settlement involves Kellogg paying over $5 million to establish a fund which will allow consumers to get back $0.50 per package for Kashi products purchased during certain time frames. Similarly, a $325,000 settlement fund will be set up for Bear Naked consumer claims.

The scoop: years of questionable behavior from Kellogg

In 2011, it was discovered that Kashi had spent $800,000 dollars fighting Proposition 37, the California ballot initiative for GMO labeling. Then the head-scratching oddities of it all kicked in. Why would a company touting naturalness be shelling out the big bucks to keep the issue quiet?

From there, a domino effect of reactions surfaced, including one New England store, Green Grocer, who took matters in their own hands by removing the products from their shelves. In those instances, they created signs informing customers that 100 percent of the soy used in Kashi products is actually genetically modified, despite its "All natural" claims. They also made them aware that grains used in their cereals were found to contain carcinogenic and hormone-disrupting pesticides. The sign was posted on the Internet and from there came a fast-spreading viral reaction that generated increased awareness about the deception.

In an attempt to reassure consumers that it was trying to get back on the healthy track, Kashi says they started working with the non-GMO project in which they were able to have seven of their foods officially verified as being non-GMO. Many people surely applauded their efforts, but it's likely that even more mumbled something about having a bridge to be sold as well.

Thankfully, this settlement has been reached and hopefully ingredients that were found in these Kellogg products such as pyridoxine hydrochloride, calcium pantothenate or hexane-processed soy oil will not surface in other products carrying labeling that promises otherwise. As a side note that many may consider ironic or open to interpretation in light of recent events, on Mother's Day 2014 Kellogg said on Twitter, "May your Mother's Day be filled with unexpected treats! #happymothersday #frootloops pic.twitter.com/yFvHUAoCu8."

"Treats," as people have learned, may mean one thing to Kellogg and a whole other thing to consumers.

"We will comply with the terms of the settlement agreement by the end of the year," says Charles "and will continue to ensure our foods meet our high quality and nutrition standards, while delivering the great taste people expect."

Comparison of GMO and non-GMO corn - the real statistics will astound you!

    Learn more: http://www.naturalnews.com/040210_gm...#ixzz31tfz3DY3

(NaturalNews) As Monsanto parades their genetically modified seed, throwing it out like candy into the fields, future generations are being subjected to nutritionally void, disease-causing food. As the government protects the GMO industry, with its recent signing of the "Monsanto Protection Act", the republic's health interests are being discarded.

A 2012 study, called the Corn Comparison Report, was recently released by Profit Pro and published on the website for Moms Across America March to Label GMOs - a group dedicated to raising awareness about the dangers of genetically modified organisms.

The Corn Comparison Report detailed the nutritional deficiencies of GMO corn compared to regular organic corn. The report reveals the stunning levels of glyphosate in GMO corn and the amount of vital nutrients that have been drawn out.

    GMO corn: nutritionally void

The nutrition statistics for GMO corn are bone chilling. Here is what the report indicates:

    • Organic corn has 14 ppm of manganese. GMO corn has only 2 ppm.
Real corn has 7 times more manganese!
    • Organic corn has 6130 ppm of calcium. GMO is stripped down to 14 ppm.
Real corn has 437 times more calcium!
    • Organic corn has 113 ppm of magnesium. GMO corn is vacant, with only 2 ppm.
Real corn has 56 times more magnesium!

GMO corn contains alarming glyphosate levels

The amount of formaldehyde and glyphosate in GMO corn is unbelievable. To break it down, American EPA standards allow glyphosate in water of up to .7ppm. European tests indicate that animals begin experiencing liver damage at .0001 ppm of glyphosate in water. Putting these two statistics together, America's water levels contain glyphosate that is 7,000 times greater than the amount required for animal liver damage!

GMO corn takes that statistic up yet another notch. GMO corn contains 13 ppm of glyphosate, or the equivalent of 130,000 times more toxicity than EPA water standards!

The formaldehyde level of GMO corn is unspeakable

In a similar study on GMO corn, Dr. Huber found out that animals avoid GMO corn at all costs. When given a choice between both GMO and non GMO varieties of corn, animals always go for the real organic corn. Huber also found out that .97ppm of formaldehyde is toxic to animals. The GMO corn he tried to give the animals contained 200 times that amount!

    This begs the questions:

    • Why is something this toxic fed to humans?
    • Why would humans touch the stuff in the first place?
    • Are people devolving?
    • Have their instincts been shut down?
    • Is their intuition numb?
    • Are they distracted by pretty labels and promises of safety?

    March against GMOs

Genetically modified organisms are an open invitation to disease, cancer, and infertility. What a person consumes is what they become. Eating nutrient-void, formaldehyde-laden GMO corn is beckoning a disease-ridden population. There is enough evidence out now that explains the horror of genetically modified food. Any corporation that feeds this genetically modified system to the people should be tried for crimes against humanity.

Sadly, Monsanto and other biotech giants may have just been pardoned from their crimes against humanity. Through recent lobbying with the federal government, Monsanto was able to protect their GMO industry and get Congress and President Obama to pass a provision that exempts them from GMO liability. This law was signed into motion on March 26 and allows biotech companies like Monsanto to bypass federal approval tests and plant their GMO crops despite well known health risks. This provision frees biotech companies from their liability to the people and from judicial accountability.

This leaves justice, freedom, and the future of health in the people's hands.

A worldwide March against Monsanto is scheduled May 25th 1013.

City passes ordinance to protect Monsanto world headquarters from protesters

    Melissa Melton
    Activist Post

As the fight against genetically modified foods continues to intensify across the country, protesters like those involved in March Against Monsanto continue to march on.

Unfortunately, in a staunchly pro-Monsanto state like Missouri — home to Monsanto’s global headquarters — those protests just became a little more difficult to hold at the site itself.

Apparently Monsanto protesters have traditionally gathered on a large median on Olive Boulevard outside the Monsanto world headquarters complex at 800 N. Lindbergh Blvd in St. Louis to hold up signs and give out informational pamphlets.

Well, now the Creve Coeur City Council has unanimously voted 8-0 to try and stop that from happening. A new ordinance just passed by the city would reclassify medians as part of the road. This means that protesters who continue to try to protest at the same spot outside Monsanto that they always have would now be charged with a class C misdemeanor.
Susie Chasnoff, St. Louis organizer for “March Against Monsanto St. Louis,” said she feels the new rule is more about the flow of free speech than traffic.
“The police already have the legal authority to ensure safety on the median,” she said, “so I don’t think they needed an extra layer of law.” (source)

Millions of people took to the streets all over the world to march against the big agra giant and its genetically modified seeds and pesticides last year. The 2nd annual worldwide March Against Monsanto will be held on May 24th this year, so the council’s timing in passing the new ordinance is nothing short of impeccable.
The St. Louis march is one of dozens taking place across the globe on May 24, with activists calling for the permanent boycott of genetically modified organisms and other agri-chemicals. Chasnoff said the protests always had been peaceful, which is why she finds the new local ordinance disturbing.
“Our constitutional rights have been further and further minimized,” she said, “and I see this as another step in that process.” (source)
The city council has repeatedly said the decision was not related to free speech but because being on a median is a safety issue.

Indeed, Creve Coeur’s Police Chief Glenn Eidman reiterated to the Business Journal that it’s a safety issue:
“We don’t want to prevent them from protesting,” Eidman told the Business Journal Monday. “We have the authority to police the medians, and it’s certainly constitutional.”
Then again, the police already had the authority to police medians without the council’s new ordinance.

No, there’s really no way to spin this as anything other than helping to chill free speech.

Why? Because if being on a median on Olive Boulevard is really so dangerous that people can’t protest there, then why has the city placed a bus stop on this median on Olive Boulevard (where people have protested) just outside the very Monsanto headquarters building where the city has decided medians are unsafe to protest on?

    Screen Captures via Google Maps:

Guess when the cops show up at the protest, all the protesters can just pretend they are waiting for the bus.

Join the global March Against Monsanto this Saturday!

    Tuesday, May 20, 2014
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

NaturalNews) The worldwide March Against Monsanto takes place this Saturday, May 24th, as millions of people will once again gather to protest the despicable food imperialism practices of the most-hated corporation in the world: Monsanto.

Check out the official March Against Monsanto website for a list of cities hosting the event, covering every continent and nearly every nation on the planet.

Over 350 cities are hosting the event, including every major city in the United States. The mainstream media, however, will once again selectively ignore this event, as they are completed owned and controlled by the financial interests of their advertisers which consist largely of junk food companies using lots of GMOs. (Even the HFCS used in sodas comes from genetically modified corn.) The March Against Monsanto is truly the "million mom march" that the mainstream media is desperately trying to pretend isn't taking place.

This year's march takes place following an important victory for consumers: Vermont has now enacted a law requiring mandatory GMO labeling on all foods sold in the state. The biotech industry is expected to try to block the law with a series of lawsuits, but even if they succeed the global trend against GMOs cannot be stopped.

GMO "science" smacks of "tobacco science"

All the scientists pushing GMOs today almost perfectly resemble the sellout doctors, scientists and medical authorities who recommend cigarettes three generations ago.

There was a time when Big Tobacco ruled the realm of "science" and even ran full-page advertisements in the Journal of the American Medical Association claiming, "More doctors smoke Camels than any other cigarette!" (Click here to see the ad for yourself.)

The mantra of the day was that cigarettes had, "no evidence of harm." This is the exact same false rationalization currently used with GMOs. Of course, the only reason there is "no evidence of harm" is because any scientists who happen to document evidence of harm are immediately railroaded, censored and threatened for daring to conduct real science. Any scientific work that manages to get published showing health risks of GMOs is quickly retracted after journal editors are threatened and intimidated by biotech operatives. (Yes, the biotech industry routinely uses mafia-style tactics to censor the truth about GMOs.)

GMOs have never been tested for long-term safety in humans, so any claim of "no evidence of harm" is obviously ludicrous. A person could say the same thing immediately after leaping off a cliff. "Hey, there's no evidence of harm!" And there isn't until you hit the ground, at which point it's too late to stop the damage.

GMOs present real, significant risks to humanity and our planet

GMOs present very real risks of ecological damage, genetic pollution, harm to animals, harm to humans and even sudden collapse of the global food supply. None of these risks have been sufficiently and scientifically studied, much less ruled out. The entire GMO industry operates in complete abandonment of the Precautionary Principle of modern science, which says we should err on the side of caution instead of releasing unknown, self-replicating organisms into the wild.

One scientist has bravely warned that GMOs could unleash global "ecocide" which destroys the ecosystem. Although this risk is very small for each genetically modified seed variety, the aggregate risk becomes very large over time as more and more genetically engineered crops are released into the wild.

It is not "rational" or "scientific" to expose the entire human race to the unknown risks of a self-replicating organism being carelessly released into the wild with little more than vague assurances from corporate-funded "scientists." And if the biotech industry were so interested in doing good on our planet, why are all their operatives engaged in mafia-style tactics that include death threats, intimidation and character assassination attempts?

GMOs: The Walking Dead of the Food Industry, the infographic explains how GMOs are now being planted on a collective land area measuring the size of the entire state of Alaska: http://www.naturalnews.com/045212_GM...erbicides.html

Infographic spells out what's wrong with GMOs

Tuesday, May 20, 2014 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer
    Tags: GMOs, infographic, herbicides
(NaturalNews) Some of the best arguments are those that are thorough enough to be persuasive, but simple enough to be widely understood. And a new infographic by NurseDegree.net seems to accomplish both of these with regards to genetically-modified organisms (GMOs), spelling out how pervasive transgenic crops have become in the modern food supply and what these deadly organisms are doing to the health of our environment.

Entitled GMOs: The Walking Dead of the Food Industry, the infographic explains how GMOs are now being planted on a collective land area measuring the size of the entire state of Alaska. An astounding 170.1 million hectares, or about 420 million acres, of land around the world are growing things like Monsanto's Roundup Ready soy and Syngenta's Bt corn. And primarily in North America, these and other GM crops have bombarded the food supply without proper labeling.

"In the U.S.," explains the graphic, the "FDA ruled GMOs not significantly different from naturally occurring foods." And the agency has always based its approval "on studies conducted by GMO manufacturers themselves."

GMOs are substantially different from natural crops, which is why they are patented

As we previously pointed out, the position that GMOs are no different from natural crops is dubious, at best, seeing as GMOs are substantially different, hence their ability to be patented. For nearly two decades, Big AgriBio has gotten away with playing both sides, claiming on the one hand that GMOs are unique in order to reap huge profits, while at the same time claiming that they are the same as all other crops in order to gain regulatory approval.

But as the public has progressively awakened to this sham, an overwhelming percentage of people now say they want GMOs to be properly labeled, which should have been the case all along. According to data reiterated in the new infographic, an overwhelming 87 percent of consumers say they want GMO labeling, and more than half of all Americans would refuse to buy GMOs if given the choice via labels.

Herbicide production has increased 15-fold since GMOs were first introduced

The chemical companies have also gotten away with lying to the public about how much herbicide and pesticide is needed to grow GMOs. Multinational chemical corporations like Monsanto have long claimed that GMOs would reduce farmers' reliance on chemicals to grow cash crops. But nothing could be further from the truth, as herbicide production has increased by 1500 percent since GMOs were first introduced in the mid-1990s.

"GMOs are manufactured for herbicide tolerance, particularly to glyphosate (Roundup)," reads the graphic. "Some negative effects: Weeds resistant to glyphosate develop, spawning super weeds. Glyphosate builds up in the soil, contaminating it."

More superweeds than ever turning up as a result of GMO technologies

Besides the sheer volume of superweeds now popping up as a result of GMOs, many new types of superweeds are emerging, making it increasingly difficult for farmers to fight them all off while still generating high yields. In fact, GMOs have only caused more problems for farmers while providing absolutely no benefits or improvements for consumers, shattering the myths spread by the chemical industry hailing GMOs as the saviors of mankind.

"None of the genetically modified food crops currently on the market offer benefits to consumers in terms of price, nutrition, or new produce," says Ucsusa.org, as quoted in the infographic.

You can learn more about the dangers of GMOs, including their ability to spread allergens to other species and contaminate non-GM and organic crops, by checking out the NurseDegree.net infographic here:

I NEVER even knew about this!! I wonder if the reports are true... PLEASE SHARE IT
Do you know the meaning of the colors on the bottom?
    Green : Natural.
    Blue : Natural + Medicine.
Red : Natural + Chemical composition.
    Black : Pure Chemical.
BE AWARE OF THE PRODUCTS THAT YOU USE DAILY!

What Do Those Color Codes On Toothpaste Really Mean?

cogdogblog,-flickr You may have seen this alert on your Facebook page, shared by friends: color coding on products we use all the time and what it means. This is the claim in the article from Dailylaughpics.com:
The meaning of the colors on the bottom of toothpaste tubes:
    Green square = Natural
Blue square = Natural + Medicine
Red square = Natural + Chemical composition
    Black square = Pure Chemical

To counter this information, one Facebook friend posted on my page: “This mark is so that the machine that is packing the product knows where to cut the tube or box or whatever. take a look at food boxes or bags of pasta or rice, the same marks.”

So who’s right? Well, after checking this out on Snopes.com, which investigates information that gets shared around on-line, it turns out that my Facebook friend is right. Those marks are for manufacturing purposes, so that machines know where to cut the tubes.

Word to wise: just because you see it posted on the internet and presented as a fact, doesn’t mean it is. There are quite a few urban legends floating out there in the internet ethers so if you want to find out if something is indeed true, check it out before sharing it around on Snopes.com.
