Lawmakers Seek ACORN Audit

MADISON (AP) - Two Republican Wisconsin lawmakers want to know if any state money was going toward troubled community organizing group ACORN.

Sen. Ted Kanavas of Brookfield and Rep. Bill Kramer of Waukesha have asked the state Department of Administration and the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority for an immediate audit.

The two agencies had no immediate comment Monday.

The U.S. Congress has voted to deny federal funds for ACORN in a GOP-led strike against the liberal-leaning group accused last year of submitting false voter registration forms.

In a video released last week, ACORN employees in Brooklyn were shown advising a couple posing as a pimp and prostitute to lie about her profession in applying for housing help.
