Dems: DOJ leaders not to blame for Fast & Furious

WASHINGTON - Democrats looking into Operation Fast and Furious say a yearlong investigation has turned up no evidence that the flawed gun smuggling probe was
conceived or directed by high-level political appointees at Justice Department headquarters.

The probe, the Democrats say, was just one of four such operations that were part of a misguided five-year-long effort, during both the George W. Bush and Obama administrations, in the Phoenix division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives against firearms trafficking along the Southwest border.

Issa threatens contempt proceeding against Holder if Justice fails to comply with F&F

Issa claims Holder's "actions lead us to conclude that the department is actively engaged in a cover-up" because it refuses to comply with previous subpoenas.

"If the department continues to obstruct the congressional inquiry by not providing documents and information, this committee will have no alternative but to move forward with proceedings to hold you in contempt of Congress," Issa warned in the letter.

Parents say slain agent's death exposed flaws of gun-running operation

Terry's family claims that the federal government knew long ago that Avila's guns killed Terry, that their program was responsible for an agent's death. But they lied, Terry's parents say in their claim, to hide the failure of their program.

Some of Terry's colleagues have spoken out against Fast and Furious, including agent John Dodson, who expressed concern to lawmakers in Washington last year.

"I cannot begin to think of how the risk of letting guns fall into the hands of known criminals could possibly advance any legitimate law enforcement interest," he said. "I hope the committee will receive a better explanation than I."

Holder Denies He’s Lost Public’s Confidence, Rejects Resignation Calls

Already 103 members of Congress have called for Holder to resign over the Justice Department operation that allowed guns to flow to Mexican drug cartel. The operation was halted in December 2010 after two weapons the department lost track of in the program were found at the murder scene of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. Holder insisted he did not know about the program until early 2011.
