Ron Paul supporters oust two Romney RNC officials

SPARKS - In a show of anti-establishment political power at Saturday's Nevada Republican Convention, GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul's supporters ousted two Mitt Romney backers from the Republican National Committee.

The vote came during a day of clashes between the two camps as Paul backers sought to install his people in the party hierarchy and elect as many Nevada delegates as possible to the national convention in Tampa, Fla.

RNC National Committeeman Bob List, a former Nevada governor, lost election to James Smack, the vice chairman of the state GOP and a longtime Paul supporter from Fallon. The vote was 932 for Smack and 623 for List.
RNC National Committeewoman Heidi Smith lost to Diana Orrock, one of Paul's backers who have been taking control of the Clark County GOP for the past year. Carol Del Carlo of Incline Village also was in the running. Orrock got 902 votes to 429 for Del Carlo and 231 for Smith.
Each state has a female and male RNC representative on the committee, which runs the national Republican Party - a key duty in 2012 when the White House is at stake as well as control of the U.S. Senate and Congress.
The new RNC committee man and woman won't begin serving their four-year terms until after the national GOP convention in August, when they'll be formally installed.
But having Paul supporters at the RNC could expand the Texas congressman's influence beyond the 2012 campaign as he promotes smaller government and more liberties.
    RNC PICK CALLS FOR UNITY
Smack, in his speech to the convention, said he wanted to represent all Republicans - not just Paul supporters - and help unite the party after a divisive GOP presidential primary.
"I'm not here just to serve Nevada Republicans for one candidate or another," Smack said. "I'm here to serve all Nevada Republicans. I can unite people."
Paul supporters booed Smith when she delivered a defiant speech before the election, declaring Romney's the only candidate who can beat President Barack Obama.
"The only way we can get that damn socialist out of the White House is to vote for the man who will do it," she said.
Romney won the Feb. 4 GOP presidential caucuses in Nevada with 50 percent of the vote, awarding him 14 of the 28 state delegates to the national convention while Paul won five.
But with Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich out of the race, Paul supporters at the convention were trying Saturday to win all of their delegates - and cut into Romney's share.
"We'll get more than half," predicted a Paul supporter as the campaign worked behind the scenes to ensure votes. "We're doing very well. Things are going our way."
A Romney supporter said the outcome would be of no consequence, however, since 20 of the elected Nevada delegates would be still be bound to vote for Romney at the national convention on the first ballot under GOP rules and only eight for Paul under the official reallocation. Also, Romney is well on his way toward wrapping up the nomination by gaining the needed 1,144 delegates before Tampa.
The final results of the Nevada delegate voting might not be known until late Saturday or even Sunday as the convention, which began at 9 a.m., and dragged into the night.
    NATIONAL GOP THREAT
The Republican National Committee has threatened not to seat the Nevada delegation if there are too many Paul supporters in it. Sanctions could range from giving Nevadans a bad spot on the convention floor, replacing challenged delegates or refusing to allow them into Tampa.
Some 1,618 state delegates attended the state convention at John Ascuaga's Nugget, including 700 from Clark County. A total of 344 were nominated to be national delegates.
Paul has vowed to stay in the race through the Republican National Convention Aug. 27-30 as his supporters in Nevada and other states work to elect delegates so he has more influence and could even be nominated from the floor.
Although Saturday's convention was filled with speakers promoting unity, the Paul backers and Romney supporters clashed at every turn during the GOP meeting, battling over every rule, every ballot and every point of order.
At one point they were arguing over how to vote, whether to raise one hand or two, stand or sit, or yell out to be counted. One woman said she had laryngitis.
"The Paul people want to delay and delay and delay," said Dave Gibbs, Clark County GOP chairman.
The only moment of unity came when the Paul and Romney campaigns sprung to buy pizzas for the convention-goers for dinner when the meeting headed into certain overtime.
GOP leaders vowed to complete all party business and not to shut the convention down as they did in 2008 when Paul supporters took over and Republicans turned off the lights.
Paul whipped up his supporters in an afternoon speech, saying the party has a chance to defeat Obama this year, but first must restore American confidence in the GOP.
Paul said people have become disenchanted with Republicans because GOP leaders in Congress have continued to spend too much money and drive up the nation's debt.
At the same time, Paul said the public has become even more upset with Obama for expanding government, waging war without congressional authority, hiking taxes and interfering with personal liberties, including health care decisions.
"So there's a lot of reason for us to be optimistic, politically, that we can unseat this president," Paul said in a 15-minute speech to the convention packed with his backers. "But I think it's very important we restore confidence in the Republican Party … We cannot win, or we cannot change the country, if our goal is to maintain the status quo."
    Paul didn't once mention Romney.
    JOSH ROMNEY TACKLES OBAMA
Saturday morning, Romney's son, Josh, addressed the convention, urging Republicans to unite to defeat Obama.
Romney welcomed the energy of the Paul forces, saying he and other Republicans seeking the GOP nomination "would make a better president than President Obama."
"I recognize that Congressman Paul is still in the race and working hard," Romney said, earning a big round of applause as Paul backers waved campaign signs and cheered along with Romney supporters. "And I appreciate the contribution he's making for the energy and excitement in the party."
In the end, Romney said, it was important for Republicans to work together to oust Obama, arguing the president hasn't turned the economy around as promised when he took office.
"We've absolutely got to unite as a party, as a country, and I think we will, to defeat President Obama next November," Romney said in a five-minute speech interrupted with polite applause several times and no Paul hecklers.
Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., also addressed the convention, but other top GOP leaders skipped the event.
Gov. Brian Sandoval was at a veterans event in Las Vegas. Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., was on Army Reserve duty. And U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nev., decided to attend his daughter's soccer game instead.

Ron Paul Is Going to the Republican National Convention, and- Believe It Or Not- It’s Still Possible for Paul to Score an Upset

Posted on May 6, 2012 by WashingtonsBlog

On Wednesday, the Washington Post tallied Ron Paul’s gains in various states:
At Massachusetts’ state convention less than half of Romney’s 27 chosen delegates won tickets to Tampa. Paul supporters were chosen instead. While all of the state’s delegates are committed to vote for Romney, the delegates get to decide on the party chairman, platform, and VP nominee. …

Paul supporters are a majority in the Iowa GOP’s State Central Committee, and he’s set to claim a majority of the state’s delegates despite finishing third in the caucuses.

They dominated the caucuses in Louisiana, carrying four out of six congressional districts with a tie in a fifth. That means 74 percent of the state’s convention delegates will be Paul backers.

In Minnesota, Paul won 20 of 24 delegates allocated at congressional district conventions, and he’s expected to take more at the statewide convention.
    Huffington Post notes:

Paul can be nominated from the floor in Tampa by a plurality of five state delegations
    The Des Moines Register reports:

Several Paul loyalists said they harbor hope for getting Paul nominated at the national convention in Tampa in late August.

In order to do that, Paul must have a majority of support from at least five state delegations. With states like North Dakota, Minnesota and others on track, his supporters could then attempt to nominate him from the floor.

Iowa’s 28 delegates are all “unbound,” meaning they can individually decide which presidential candidate to support. To stop Paul supporters from controlling the Iowa delegation, Romney backers in Iowa said they will likely focus on teaming up with Christian conservatives here.
To stop Paul supporters, mainstream Republicans are playing dirty. For example, the Republican National Committee has warned that it may refuse to allow the entire delegation for Nevada to be seated at the national convention for fear that Ron Paul supporters have taken control of the state.

    Paul is not backing down.

It's funny that Romney people feel they have to pose as Paul people to get elected. I thought Ron Paul was unelectable.

Published on May 5, 2012 by morepuppies

Mitt Romney operatives try to divide the votes that Ron Paul supporters were to cast for delegates to the RNC in Tampa, during the Maine GOP Convention. They did so by circulating not one, but two different slates, to make Paul voters think there had been a change in the official list of delegate nominees that were being endorsed by the Ron Paul campaign. And they got caught.

How ironic is it that when Romney gets a FAKE win (beauty contest)

The media propagandize it as a REAL win (Romney Wins)

But when Ron Paul gets a REAL win (Majority of elected delegates)

The media propagandize it as a FAKE win (Ron Paul Hijacks Maine)

The Evolution of a Ron Paul Supporter

    Ron Paul 2012

    Illinois

The Evolution of a Ron Paul Supporter

    Who is Ron Paul?

He expressed some unorthodox views in his 20 seconds of debate coverage last night. CNN and Fox News are right – his ideas are dangerous and outside of the mainstream.

Well, maybe I will give Ron Paul’s views a second look. None of these “mainstream” ideas (e.g., habitual wars, deficit spending, welfarism, bailouts, corporatism, etc.) seem to be working.

What is the Federal Reserve anyway?

An unelected privately-owned central bank that artificially sets interest rates and controls our currency without any accountability or transparency? That doesn’t seem right.

The Federal Reserve prints money out of thin air to pay for big government spending, which in return dilutes the value of dollar and causes higher prices for goods and services. I understand the inflation tax now -- this really hurts middle and low-income Americans!

How could I be such a fool? Voting for a big spending liberal like Obama is the functional equivalent to voting for transferring wealth from the middle class to the wealthy while further exacerbating the disparity between the rich and poor. Well, no big deal. We will just tax the rich.

Wow. Taxing the rich will compensate for one single pathetic day of federal government spending per year? I wonder why Obama and the liberal media make such a big deal out of taxing the rich and making them “pay their fair share” when it would essentially accomplish, well, nothing.

Okay maybe I will vote Republican but I do not like their war-mongering and blatant disregard for civil liberties. Wait a second. Obama is also a war-mongerer and perhaps the worst civil rights President in history. He extended the Patriot Act, did not close Guantanamo Bay as promised, and passed the NDAA under which he assassinates US citizens without due process.

Geez, at least when I vote Republican we can cut some spending. Wait a second. George Bush brought the US to the brink of depression by spending as much as all of the preceding presidents combined by the end of his first term, increased federal spending by 68%, introduced the largest entitlement program since the 1960s (a prescription drug benefit for seniors), spent $15 billion for AIDS relief in Africa, expanded the Department of Education, Department of Agriculture, and Department of Health and Human Services…

What the **** is going on?!?! Now that I stepped outside of my party rhetoric and actually looked at results, these political parties act the same! More wars. More spending. More inflation. More debt. More welfarism. More corporatism. More bailouts. More regulations. More revolving door and corruption. Less civil liberties. Less freedom.

Now I see why Ron Paul supporters are so enthusiastic and passionate. They are trying to liberate the minds of debt-enslaved sheep like me that have been systematically brainwashed into thinking I have freedom and choice in this illusory democracy!
