The Pauls' New Crusade: “Internet Freedom”

Defending the Internet — and the corporations that invest in it — from government regulation is the new “End the Fed,” Paul advisors tell BuzzFeed exclusively. A new Paul manifesto: “This is our revolution.”
    Rosie Gray BuzzFeed Staff

    Posted Jul 5, 2012 10:51am EDT

Ron and Rand Paul are set today to shift the central focus of their family's long libertarian crusade to a new cause: Internet Freedom.

Kentucky senator Rand and his father Ron Paul, who has not yet formally conceded the Republican presidential nomination, will throw their weight behind a new online manifesto set to be released today by the Paul-founded Campaign for Liberty. The new push, Paul aides say, will in some ways displace what has been their movement's long-running top priority, shutting down the Federal Reserve Bank. The move is an attempt to stake a libertarian claim to a central public issue of the next decade, and to move from the esoteric terrain of high finance to the everyday world of cable modems and Facebook.

The manifesto, obtained yesterday by BuzzFeed, is titled "The Technology Revolution" and lays out an argument — in doomsday tones —for keeping the government entirely out of regulating anything online, and for leaving the private sector to shape the new online space.

"The revolution is occurring around the world," it reads. "It is occurring in the private sector, not the public sector. It is occurring despite wrongheaded attempts by governments to micromanage markets through disastrous industrial policy. And it is driven by the Internet, the single greatest catalyst in history for individual liberty and free markets."

The manifesto quotes Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises and attacks not just the federal government, but also progressive groups that have called for similar measures to keep the Internet largely unregulated: "Today, the road to tyranny is being paved by a collectivist-Industrial complex -- a dangerous brew of wealthy, international NGO's, progressive do-gooders, corporate cronies and sympathetic political elites."

The manifesto lays out five specific battles with government regulation and with liberals who state their goal of online liberty in similar terms, but who view corporate encroachment as a more immediate risk. The Paul manifesto seeks to rein in anti-trust actions against companies in new industries; to stop attempts to impose "Net Neutrality" rules on broadband providers; to prevent government control of online infrastructure; to broaden private control of the wireless spectrum, and shore up "private property rights on the Internet."

The Pauls also take a stand for the growing industry known (and widely criticized) as "big data."

They deride the notion that "private sector data collection practices must be scrutinized and tightly regulated inthe name of 'protecting consumers,' at the same time as government’s warrantless surveillance and collection of private citizens’ Internet data has dramatically increased."

But, ironically, just as decentralization has unleashed the potential for free markets andindividual freedom on a global scale, collectivist special interests and governmentsworldwide are now tirelessly pushing for
    more
centralized control of the Internet andtechnology. Here at home they are aided and abetted both by an Administration that wholeheartedlybelieves in the wisdom of government to manage markets and some in the technologyindustry that cynically use the cudgel of government control and regulation to hamstringcompetitors

the Apple’s and Microsoft’s of tomorrow.
    Internet collectivism takes many forms, all of them pernicious.Among the most insidious are government attempts to control and regulate competition,infrastructure, privacy and intellectual property. According to them;

Successful companies in brand new frontier industries that didn’t even exist as recently
as five years ago should be penalized and intimidated with antitrust actions in the name
    of “fairness” and “competition.”

Privately owned broadband high-speed infrastructure must be subject to collective rule
via public ownership and government regulations that require “sharing” with other
    competitors.

Internet infrastructure must be treated as a commons subject to centralized
government control through a variety of foolish “public interest” and “fairness”
    regulations.

Wireless, the lifeblood of the mobile Internet revolution, must be micromanaged as agovernment-controlled commons, with limited exclusive property rights.

Private property rights on the Internet should exist in limited fashion or not at all, andwhat is considered to be in the public domain should be greatly expanded.

Private sector data collection practices must be scrutinized and tightly regulated in the
    name of “protecting consumers”
, at the same time as
    government’s warr
    antlesssurveillance and collection of
    private

citizens’ Internet data has dramatically increased.
Internet collectivists are clever. They are masters at hijacking the language of freedom and liberty to disingenuously pushfor more centralized control.
“Openness” means government control of privately owned infrastructure.

“Net neutrality” means government acting as
arbiter and enforcer of what it deems to be"neutral".

“Internet freedom” means the destruction of property rights.

    “Competition” means
    managed
competition, with the government acting as judge and juryon what constitutes competition and what does not.Our
    “right to privacy” only applies
to the data collection activities of the private sector, rarely to government. The eminent economist Ludwig von Mises wrote that when government seeks to solve oneproblem, it creates two more.Nowhere is this more evident than in the realm of Internet collectivists and the centralizedcontrol of the Internet they seek. The body of incremental communications law and regulation that has emerged since thedays of Alexander Graham Bell are entirely unsuited to the dynamic and ever-changingInternet for one simple reason:
Technology is evolving faster than government’s ability to
regulate it.Ronald Reagan once said, "Freedom is never more than one generation away fromextinction." But in the Internet era, true Internet freedom can be lost in far less than onegeneration.Around the world, the real threat to Internet freedom comes not from bad people orinefficient markets -- we can and will always route around them -- but fromgovernments'

foolish attempts to manage and control innovation. And it is not just the tyrannies we must fear. The road
    away
from freedom is paved withgood intentions.Today, the road to tyranny is being paved by a collectivist-Industrial complex -- a dangerousbrew of wealthy, international NGO's, progressive do-gooders, corporate cronies andsympathetic political elites.Their goals are clear: The collectivist-industrial complex seeks to undermine free marketsand property rights, replacing them with "benevolent" government control and a vision of "free" that quickly evolves from "free speech" to "free stuff."We know where this path leads. As Thomas Jefferson said, "The natural progress of things isfor liberty to yield and government to gain ground."A benevolent monopoly for "the public interest" is nothing more than a means for the oldguard to reassert their power. The role of the government on the Internet is to protect usfrom force and fraud, not to decide our interests. But while the Internet has produced a revolution, it has not, in fact, "changed everything".

We do not need to reinvent our principles for the web; we only need apply our coreprinciples to it. When faced with Internet regulation, we should ask these key questions:1.

Is this a core function of the federal government?2.

Does it execute Constitutionally defined duties?3.

Does it protect Constitutionally defined rights?4.

    Does it protect property rights?5.

    Does it protect individual rights?6.

If the federal government does not do this, will others?7.

Will this policy or regulation allow the market to decide outcomes or will it distort themarket for political ends?8.

Is this policy or regulation clear and specific, with defined metrics and limitations?Yes, there will always be problems and challenges that exist in the online universe. Thesechallenges are sometimes significant and important and other times not. Government, however, will never solve them. Markets will.As a matter of principle, we oppose any attempt by Government to tax, regulate, monitor orcontrol the Internet, and we oppose the Internet collectivists who collaborate with thegovernment against Internet freedom.
    This is our revolution…. Government
needs to get out of the way

Paul's so-called "Audit the Fed" bill will soon be put to a vote in the House of Representatives, and the new campaign will kick off shortly thereafter.

"We are going to bring to this project the same kind of intensity, resources and energy we brought to the Fed Audit," said one Paul adviser.

The document is intended to serve as a conservative counterpoint to a Declaration of Internet Freedom released this week and hosted by the group FreePress, though the two share some goals. The earlier document, which sets out broad principles but does not take sides on divisive issues like Net Neutrality, was signed by groups including the American Civil Liberties Union as well as Internet companies such as Mozilla.

The language of the document tries to reclaim the issue of Internet freedom from the strange bedfellows that have staked a claim to it: progressives and tech companies on one hand, and more traditional conservative politicians like California Rep. Darrell Issa.

"Internet collectivists are clever," the manifesto says, accusing their foes of series of Orwellian linguistic twists. "They are masters at hijacking the language of freedom and liberty to disingenuously pushfor more centralized control. 'Openness' means government control of privately owned infrastructure.'Net neutrality' means government acting as arbiter and enforcer of what it deems tobe 'neutral'."

"This is our revolution -- government needs to get out of the way," the manifesto concludes.

This is also a new stage for what supporters refer to as the Ron Paul Revolution, and a way to make sure that Ron Paul's followers stay on board with the movement after the congressman's retirement from the House of Representatives. Paul supporters are already Internet-savvy, frequently launching digital campaigns of their own, and skew young. And the new cause gives his son Rand an easier way to connect with them, given that his relationship with his father's supporters has often been fraught.

Internet freedom, Paul insiders say, is going to be Rand's end-the-Fed.

Making Rand Paul the standard-bearer of Internet freedom "is one of the goals," said a Republican strategist close to the campaign.

"As you may have noted he has been speaking out about Internet Freedom a fair amount including in his endorsement of Romney on Hannity," the strategist said in an email. "Freedom online and freedom and liberty offline are seamlessly linked and Senator Paul gets that."

A Paul adviser told BuzzFeed that the full Campaign for Liberty Internet project will start about two weeks after the Fed bill vote.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story mischaracterized the Declaration of Internet Freedom signed this week by several groups.

Does anyone think voting for Mitt Romney will bring real change to the USA?

    darkpolitricks.com

    July 7, 2012

If you hate Obama – I agree with you.

He is a warmonger, a liar, a tool of the globalists and banksters he continued to bailout after following in Bush‘s footsteps.

He has brought in laws that destroy American citizens liberty like the NDAA, indefinite detention of US citizens without due process as well as normalising the killing of US citizens by Presidential decree.

He attacks supposed allied countries like Pakistan and kills hundreds by remote control through the expansion of the drone programme that has now been expanded to be used inside the USA itself. Feel threatened? You should do.

He has expanded the war on terror and the war on main street all whilst looking after his buddies in Wall Street.

His major “win”, Obamacare is nothing more than a sop to big business that forces people to buy insurance they may not want or cannot afford. Instead of doing what a true liberal would and bring in a public or taxpayer funded option he chose a halfhearted middle of the road option no-one really wanted apart from the health insurance companies.

The list of his misdeeds are long and he has carried out many actions that true Democrats, Conservatives, Liberals or just decent people with morals and a love of freedom and liberty shouldn’t be happy with.

However if you are a Republican voter, a GOP supporting Mitt Romney lover then I have to ask – what do you think is going to change if he gets elected?

Are jobs suddenly going to come rushing back to the US shores?

    Mitt Romney
worked for a company that spent it’s time sacking American workers and off-shoring US jobs to foreign countries so why would he change his spots now. If you think the highest rung of the career ladder is serving burgers at McDonalds, get used to it.

Are the wars going to stop in Afghanistan and Pakistan (a supposed ally), Yemen, Somalia and all the other places we probably don’t even know about?

No of course not – the GOP are “strong on defence” which really means that they love going to war against weaker countries and subsidising apartheid nations in the Middle East with expensive military hardware that is then reverse engineered and sold on to enemy nations at half price.

It also means that lots of US dollars are wasted by firing expensive missiles into Afghan and Somali mud huts as well as killing thousands of innocent civilians (“collateral damage”) in the hope of getting one jihadist/terrorists/freedom fighter/person pissed off that their family members were murdered in earlier drone strikes.

Inaccurate war by drone attack is the face of the future and the drones are already patrolling the skies of US cities.

At the same time as turning the US population into a country ready to rebel.

The one party system they call US governance is busy creating future enemies around the world. All so that the military industrial complex can continue sucking money out of US taxpayers pockets in future years.

Are the banksters who ruined the economy under Bush and previous administrations going to be punished and end up in jail?

No of course not – they haven’t done under Obama and Romney is probably more in the pocket of Wall St than his rival. I don’t hold up hope of seeing the heads of Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan in a court anytime soon.

Are the lost liberties destroyed under the PATRIOT ACT, the NDAA, the Executive Orders, the Signing Letters, the death squads and all the other laws rushed through after 9.11 and then carried on by Obama going to be repealed by Romney?

    I don’t think so.

If he was a true lover of the constitution he would rip up those laws, return the USA to a non emergency powers state and return habeas corpus even to Gitmo detainees – most of which the Obama administration know are innocent but for some reason won’t let free.

He would close Gitmo and try any terrorists they currently have that actually have evidence pointing their way.

He would stop targeted killings by drones and try to restore some form of moral standing in the world for the country that was once a beacon of liberty and freedom.

The sad embarrassing fact that Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize so early in his administration makes the whole Nobel Prize system a joke and I hope Obama shudders in shame every-time he see’s any mention of the prize.

There is a reason Russia and China laugh when US UN officials accuse the Syrian government of targeted killings.

None of this evil doing by a Democrat will change under Romney 0r a Republican Presidency. Bush was a Republican and he started most of it off in the first place whereas Obama campaigned on changing it all and then did a 360 degree turn once in the White House.

In fact even more tax payers money will be wasted creating terrorists for future generations of middle and lower class Americans to fight on behalf of the rich puppet masters if the Koch brothers friend and puppet is installed at POTUS.

So the wars won’t stop, liberty will continue to be destroyed getting the USA ready for it’s next stage as a Chinese labour shop with no worker rights, health care and lengthy prison sentences on the say so of any official with a grudge against you.

So then I ask again what will actually change if Mitt Romney is elected President?

Oregon Republican Convention Chaos: Damning Video From Oregon Convention

    Submitted by MichaelStrick9 on Sat, 07/07/2012 - 19:00
    Delegates

    DP Original
    Oregon

The Oregon Republican Party held their Congressional District Conventions on June 23rd, 2012. This video is from the 3rd district. The only business to take place was electing the delegates to the Republican National Convention, their alternates, district chairs, and Presidential electors (should the Republican nominee win Oregon).

After the delegates had been elected across the state, party officials realized that a well organized band of Ron Paul supporters had been outvoting the preferred establishment choices. The only way they could defeat the Ron Paul supporters was to delay the rest of the voting until the conventions were scheduled to adjourn. At that point, citing an RNC rule, the state executive committee would then have the authority to appoint any unfilled spots in the delegation.

RNC Rule 17 C reads "Where neither the rules adopted by a state Republican Party nor state laws provide a method for filling vacancies in its national convention delegation, the state Republican Party should make every effort to elect those individuals filling the vacancies in the delegation in the same manner as the delegates were originally elected or selected, or by vote of the state Republican Party executive committee or if the state executive committee has not filled the vacancy by ten (10) days prior to the convention, by vote of the state delegation."

The key phrase is "The state Republican Party should make every effort to elect those individuals filling the vacancies in the delegation in the same manner as the delegates were originally elected or selected". They Oregon Republican Party obviously failed to abide by that rule, and did everything they could to circumvent it.

To pull the wool over everyone's eyes, they had to lie about the delays. In order for any Congressional District to continue voting, every one had to have completed the previous round of voting and counting. In CD3, we were told the hold up was ballot counting in CD5. CD5 was told CD4 was the source of the delay. CD2 was blaming CD4. CD4 was blaming CD5. CD1 was blaming CD3. When in reality, each of the CDs were moving along just fine, and supposedly waiting on a different one.

Despite nothing in the convention rules that binds the convention to the agenda laid out by ORP chairman, Allen Alley, the chair of CD3, Jim Parker, decided that the meeting would end at 5:00. Citing a lack of credentials report, a miscount of those against continuing the meeting, and failure to address Robert's Rules protocols, we concluded that the meeting was not adjourned properly or legally, and thus, the meeting was still going on after Mr. Parker and his accomplices had fled the scene.

We continued the meeting outside, where we recredentialed everyone and elected a temporary chair and secretary, since the officers were no longer present. Through a series of other motions in accordance of Robert's Rules of Orders, such as suspending certain rules by 2/3 majority, we were able to continue voting, and finished electing all of the alternate delegates.

Ironically, shortly before the illegal attempt at adjournment, the convention featured a video on voter integrity, via a group called True The Vote, which focused on exposing and defeating voter fraud.

Our voting records were discredited by the ORP when they met in their executive committee meeting, and big surprise, all of the establishment choices were appointed.

They even broke their own rules and bylaws by appointing someone as an alternate who had not filed to be one, as there were only 4 official alternate choices left for CD3, and by not breaking their own law, they would have had to appoint a Ron Paul supporter to one of the 3 available positions.

One would think that the Republican Party would strive to work with this highly motivated, organized, and knowledgable group of Ron Paul supporters, and find ways to incorporate that energy and organization into the party, rather than push them away.

To summarize, it appears as though Obama can thank ORP officials Allen Alley, Solomon Yue, and Greg Leo for doing everything they can to ostracize the Ron Paul supporters and discourage them from voting Romney, thus delivering the state to Obama.

Major banks say they are ready to go under

Oh, I can hear it now ... I need a bail out so I can stay a float

Major banks say they are ready to go under

The US Federal Deposit Insurance and Federal Reserve released public summaries of plans for quick liquidation of nine of the world’s largest banks in the case of an emergency, without government bailouts.

Complex financial firms with more than $250 billion in nonbank assets including J.P. Morgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup Inc., Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley, Barclays PLC, Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse and UBS were the first to prepare the worst case scenarios by July 1. In total, about 125 banks are expected to submit plans to the regulators by the end of 2013.

Public summaries reveal that Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs plan to sell assets or stand-alone businesses to other financial firms, private-equity investors or insurance companies in the event of a collapse. Citigroup said its banking business could be split off from the parent company and recapitalized as a smaller bank. Credit Suisse plans to sell its businesses to hedge funds, banks and securities firms.

Executive Order - Assignment of National Security and Emergency Preparedness Communications Functions

Submitted by freespeech on Sat, 07/07/2012 - 18:47
    Daily Paul Liberty Forum

Why would the POTUS need an executive order, signed July6,2012, like this...

    http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-...2/07/06/execut...

"Section 1. Policy. The Federal Government must have the ability to communicate at all times and under all circumstances to carry out its most critical and time sensitive missions. Survivable, resilient, enduring, and effective communications, both domestic and international, are essential to enable the executive branch to communicate within itself and with: the legislative and judicial branches; State, local, territorial, and tribal governments; private sector entities; and the public, allies, and other nations. Such communications must be possible under all circumstances to ensure national security, effectively manage emergencies, and improve national resilience. The views of all levels of government, the private and nonprofit sectors, and the public must inform the development of national security and emergency preparedness (NS/EP) communications policies, programs, and capabilities."

Still reading through this, but it seems like we will be absent communication of all forms soon if the President deems it necessary.

Could someone help me with this please???
