Illegal Immigration Activist Faces Arrest For Challenging Lindsey Graham With Calls

Illegal Immigration Activist Faces Arrest For Challenging Lindsey Graham With Calls

    June 6, 2014

    Contact: Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) / (866) 703-0864 / Press@alipac.us

The President of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC William Gheen is facing possible charges and arrest after bumping into a unique, obscure, and unenforced state law banning automated campaign calls that are designed to warn South Carolina and Virginia voters about how the immigration reform amnesty plans of Senator Lindsey Graham and Congressman Eric Cantor will affect them.

ALIPAC felt the calls were necessary because both Graham and Cantor are trying to distance themselves from their earlier votes and statements in support of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

"I know that nobody likes robo-calls, but isn't it ironic that I might be charged for violating an obscure unenforced state law curtailing freedoms of political speech while more than 12 million illegal immigrants flagrantly violate numerous federal laws designed to protect Americans from real damages?" said William Gheen of ALIPAC. "A few seconds of an annoying call is nothing compared to the millions of devastated American lives that are a result of Lindsey Graham's and Eric Cantor's support for amnesty for illegals."

William Gheen's Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC) supports the adequate enforcement of America's existing immigration and border laws instead of any form of immigration reform amnesty that would permanently undermine them by creating a new voting bloc of more than 10 million illegal aliens that would eventually dominate elections and job markets.

The tongue and cheek ad "thanking" Lindsey Graham and Eric Cantor for supporting immigration reform amnesty is currently being directed at SC and VA voters by social media ads and automated calls because ALIPAC is a grass roots organization lacking the millions of dollars Graham and Cantor are receiving from pro amnesty groups. ALIPAC hopes to raise enough funds this weekend to increase delivery of this ad and run the ad on talk radio stations.

In these radio and automated phone messages, Gheen encourages voters to “thank Congressman Cantor and Senator Graham on Election Day for supporting immigration reform amnesty! Graham and Cantor have proven that they will bring tens of millions of undocumented workers, students, and voters out of the shadows by changing our existing laws to accommodate them and those that employ them!"

Most states have bans on automated commercial calls, but not political campaigns because US courts have deemed that the freedom of political speech in America is the most protected freedom that is essential to the Democratic process and elections. Many campaigns rely on automated calls because they are the most affordable voter contact method compared to expensive direct mail, TV, and radio ads that incumbents willing to support amnesty for illegal aliens can afford.

Jamie Self of The State newspaper in South Carolina reports that "Clemson University pollster Dave Woodard said robo-calls are common in the days leading up to an election...You can send (voters) mail, or you can call them. Leaving a phone message is a far more effective way of communicating because people typically throw away unsolicited mail," he said.

Woodard added the state law banning robo-calls “is so poorly written that it's common knowledge that it can't be enforced.” It also is unclear how often – if ever – a campaign has been penalized or charged for robo-calls.
