Have we confirmed that 30,000 number in association with this Scandal? The largest number I have seen is 2,000 so far and at that link it says that Mexico claims they seized 30,000 guns of which 70% were allegedly American in origin, but I do not see where there is proof even that 70% were from operation Gun Runner. Please confirm this info or we need to squelch the 30k number from going round and damaging our efforts.

Reuters says 70% of the 30,000 came from ATF:

Of the nearly 30,000 firearms recovered in 2009 and 2010 in Mexico, where gun possession is illegal, some 70 percent were determined to have come from the United States, ATF officials told lawmakers last week.

If the Reuters source is accurate, 70% of 30,000 is 21,000.

The point here is the total number of weapons that fell into Mexican cartel hands is really unknown.

Numbers range from a few hundred into the tens of thousands.

Yes indeed, this does need a thorough washing.

I read this as Reuters reporting that the ATF claims that Mexico siezed 30,000 guns of which 70% came from America.

Not that 70% or 21,000 came in from America via the Operation Gun Runner / Fast and Furious.

Correct. The UNKNOWN is HOW MANY went through ATF hands.

ADD: Isn't it about time Eric Holder stepped forward and CLARIFIED just HOW MANY weapons were/are involved and what he intends to do about it?
