Canada: Muslim Disguised Himself In Burka, Honor Killed Wife After She Asked For Divorce

TORONTO – A Muslim man wore a traditional woman’s burka and female shoes before he strangled his estranged wife in the company of their toddler son.



Abdul Malik Rustam admitted he donned the headdress — which disguised his face — and wedge shoes when he killed his wife, Shaher Bano Shahdady, after she asked for a divorce.
Rustam, now 30, pleaded guilty on Valentine’s Day to second-degree murder in the July 22, 2011, slaying. He will be sentenced Thursday by Justice John McMahon.
Shahdady fought for her life, leaving scratch marks on his face and neck and keeping his DNA underneath her fingernails, court heard. On the day of the murder, Rustam confessed to his brother he “finished her by the throat.”
She had lived apart from her older, jealous husband for almost two years — using a cellphone and the Internet and expanding her social network while raising their son.
When Rustam rejoined his wife and child in Canada in March 2011, tensions flared as he objected to her having a “cellphone and an online friendship with another man” in Dubai, Crown attorney Joseph Hanna said in reading an agreed statement of fact.
Within days, the acrimony rose to the point that Rustam was asked to leave the Bush Dr. home and move in with his brother in Richmond Hill, Hanna said.
In May 2011, the victim’s father returned to Canada and convinced Rustam to reunite with his wife in her parents’ home. But his wife refused to surrender her cellphone and the tensions flared again.
She then moved out from her parents’ home in early July while Rustam stayed. She broke the news to Rustam that their marriage was over.
The killing occurred only two weeks after the 21-year-old woman received social assistance and moved into an apartment at 3131 Eglinton Ave. E.
Shahdady, who emigrated from Pakistan to Canada with her family when she was a year old, returned to her homeland when she was 12 or 13.
Rustam and Shahdady were wed in an arranged marriage in their native Pakistan in 2008 when she was 17 or 18 and he was 25.
She was soon pregnant, but her family urged her to give birth in Canada. Rustam, who wasn’t a Canadian citizen, stayed in Pakistan.
Their son was born in late August 2009, but due to medical reasons the mother and baby remained in Canada while Rustam and Shahdady “had begun to drift apart,” Hanna said.
The boy now lives with his maternal grandparents.
The burka-clad Rustam, carrying gloves on a hot July day, manipulated the security camera so it couldn’t monitor his wife’s doorway as he entered shortly after 1 a.m.
Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, said the murder is an honour killing that raises two disturbing issues for him.
“This attire has become an attire of choice for various crimes, terrorists, and now this is the first time the burka has been used as an instrument to a murder,” Fatah said. “The burka is protected under the guise of religious freedom.”
He added that the burka enabled the killer “to gain access into the home.

A couple of young boys were reportedly suspended after they refused to pray to Allah during a religious education class at a school in Cheshire, England. Parents are livid over the “practical demonstration” of how Muslims worship and the discipline meted out to the youngsters.
The Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is pressuring public schools in this country to make special accommodations for Muslim students and to deny comparable accommodations for students of other faiths.
For example, CAIR’s instructional material for teachers entitled “An Educator’s Guide to Islamic Religious Practices” advises schools to permit Muslim students who wish to attend Friday congregational worship (known as Jum’ah) to “request a temporary release from school.”
In Michigan, CAIR went beyond dispensing general advice from its guidebook. In April, 2013, it pushed for public schools in Dearborn, Michigan to accommodate Muslim students who wish to comfortably pray on school grounds and to allow Muslim students to leave early on Fridays for Jumu’ah prayers.
The school superintendant caved, and CAIR got its wish.
Just a few months earlier, the same CAIR Michigan branch had complained that a Detroit area elementary school was being too accommodating to Christians when it allowed its teachers to distribute permission slips for parents to sign so that their children could be released to attend off-site Bible studies classes.
Wnd reported Public school students at Friendswood Junior High in the Houston area have been roped into Islamic training by representatives from the Council on American-Islamic Relations during class time, prompting religious leaders to protest over Principal Robin Lowe’s actions.
Pastor Dave Welch, spokesman for the Houston Area Pastor Council, confirmed the indoctrination had taken place and called it “unacceptable.
The failure of the principal of Friendswood Junior High to respect simple procedures requiring parental notification for such a potentially controversial subject, to not only approve but participate personally in a religious indoctrination session led by representatives of a group with well-known links to terrorist organizations and her cavalier response when confronted, raises serious questions about her fitness to serve in that role,” the pastors’ organization said.
According to a parent, whose name was withheld, the children were given the Islamic indoctrination during time that was supposed to be used for a physical education class.
“I am simply trying to get the word out to those whose kids may not have told them about an Islamic presentation that all kids were required to attend,” wrote the parent, who was working to assemble protests to the school board.

Chinese police to be drafted in to Paris to help protect tourists

Officers will patrol with French counterparts to prevent fellow citizens being targeted by pickpockets and muggers

Paris police are to draft in reinforcements from China to help patrol the French capital during the summer tourist boom.
The foreign officers will be deployed to key landmarks to prevent Chinese visitors – around 1 million of whom come to France every year – being targeted by pickpockets and muggers.
A plan originating from the French Interior Ministry proposed that Chinese police officers would patrol with their French counterparts in Paris tourist spots. A ministry spokesperson refused to give details or numbers, but said their role would be preventative, and that they would operate as part of a global operation to protect tourists across the city.
Police say Chinese tourists often carry large amounts of cash, making them a target for attacks. Tourists from China are estimated to spend an average of €1,300 during their holidays, much of it on designer goods.
The move follows a rise in assaults by thieves on tourists from China. In March last year a group of 23 Chinese visitors were robbed in a restaurant shortly after arriving in Paris. The group was on a 12-day tour of Europe but stopped for dinner at Le Bourget in one of Paris's northern suburbs, where they were robbed of €7,500 cash, plane tickets and passports. The group leader was injured in the attack.
Afterwards, Sylvia Pinel, the tourism minister, said the government was determined to ensure the security of tourists to the country.
Tang Lu, of the Chinese Tourist Agency in Paris, said the incident was a familiar one. Chinese tourists are seen as big-spending visitors and are targeted in the belief that they are carrying large sums of money. "For us, Paris has replaced Rome in the table of cities where you have to pay the most attention," Lu told Le Parisien. "We are hearing about this kind of attack on Chinese visitors more and more often."
In central Paris, officers struggle to deal with organised gangs of thieves and pickpockets, many of them children, from the Balkans and eastern Europe, who harass tourists with fake "petitions" or demands for charity donations.
Jean-François Zhou, director general of Ansel Travel, which specialises in organising visits for Chinese tourists, welcomed the patrols. "The French police have a reputation in China for being lax. The presence of Chinese police might not only have a dissuasive effect but help in dealing with the tourists," Zhou told Le Figaro.
"They can also help victims to make a police complaint. Even if we can't put a police officer behind each tourist, their presence will give a sense of security."
The number of Chinese visitors to France is expected to be given a boost this year because of events linked to the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Paris and Beijing.
