TWO DE QUEEN MEN ARRESTED FOR RAPE 2/25/08
Two De Queen men were arrested for the rape of an 18 year old De Queen female.

According to the De Queen Police Department, at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 24th an 18 year old white female came to the Sevier County Jail and reported to Officer Larry Gibson that she had been raped by two Hispanic males.

The victim was transported to De Queen Medical Center by Officer Gibson and Deputy Jeff Wahls of the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department to be examined by a physician. Sandra Renfrow of the Southwest Arkansas Sexual Assault Response Team was called in to assist with the victim.

Lt Scott Simmons was called and arrived at the hospital to take over the investigation. The victim told officers that she had caught a ride with the two Hispanic males and they took her to a remote location where the rape occurred. Using a description from the victim officers went to a residence at 563 Hwy 71 North in De Queen and apprehended two Hispanic males identified as 21 year old Daniel Sanchez and 25 year old Jesus Tapia both of De Queen. Deputy Omar Cervantes of the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist with translation and other investigative matters.

Both suspects were brought to the De Queen Police Department to be interviewed. After the interview, both subjects were incarcerated and charged with rape and aggravated assault. Both men are suspected of being illegal immigrants and ICE was contacted. Holds have been placed on both men until an investigation into their legal status can be completed. A $100,000 bond has been placed on both men.

The incident is still under investigation by the De Queen Police Department.
