Regarding your story about Julio Cesar Ayala, the Salvadoran immigrant who is facing a deportation hearing after being arrested by police for driving without a license: Mr. Ayala knew he was taking a risk when he decided to overstay his "tourist" visa four years ago ("Immigrants, city fear divide over status checks," Feb. 26).
Didn't he understand he was breaking the law by driving without a license? And how come you didn't mention right up front that he is an illegal immigrant?
Nor did the story say who was employing him or whether he is getting government benefits. Isn't that illegal? And who pays for any accidents he may be involved in?
The answer is we do, the American citizen whose insurance rates continually increase because of unlicensed, uninsured drivers who get into accidents.
Why is it when you write such articles you don't include all the facts? Mr. Ayala is an illegal immigrant — not a "new American," as our governor wants to call them. I hope the U.S. government does the right thing and deports him.
His actions are not in keeping with all the immigrants who came here legally and who obtained their rights legally.
