BIG BRO: Force cities to take immigrants

    Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Ratcheting up his controversial proposal for revitalizing America’s cities, Mayor Bloomberg yesterday suggested that the federal government “deliberately force” large municipalities to take in immigrants as the only hope for salvaging their battered economies.

The mayor also criticized President Obama for deporting more immigrants “than the last four or five presidents put together.”

Bloomberg spoke at a Midtown forum, timed to the release of a new study titled “Not Coming to America: Why the US is Falling Behind in the Global Race for Talent.”

He was joined on the panel by Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas, whose company helped underwrite the research.

Bloomberg is a jerk. If the US is falling behind on the global race for talent it is because of over 50 years of pushing parents and local communities out of running our primary and secondary schools and turning them over to the teachers unions and the federal government. We pay as much, if not more, per student than any nation in the world, and what are the results. Every year we show up either stagnant or further down the list of other industrial countries in standardized test scores. We have turned our colleges and universities over to leftists and, worse, academic prostitutes who will sell our academic freedom, freedom of speech, the scientific method and objective discussion of ideas to the highest bidders. I am not against importing talent, but in the Wealth of Nations, the fundamental document that defines capitalism, Adam Smith stated to import what can be produced more cheaply elsewhere, but do not import what can be produced more cheaply domestically. I maintain we have more than enough domestic talent, and if we take Scott Walker's lead and start bringing the unions under control in the public school system, and support a major push for school choice we can train and educate that talent much more cheaply than we can import it. The idea that we do not have the ability to produce high caliber scientists, mathematicians, doctors, engineers, etc. is baloney. It reflects more on the inadequacy of government education policy and the dumbing down of our universities than it does lack of talent or failing of our immigration policies. Microsoft, INTEL, and other major high tech companies keep whining about the need to import computer scientists and engineers from India, Asia, etc. because they cannot get enough from our schools. Well, I do not believe that. I think they just want cheaper labor. But, if our schools are the problem, fix the schools.

But before anyone buys into Blowhard Bloomberg's commehts check the actual stats. Over 50% of our unemployed are college grads....are we saying cheap imports are better than these? How many are engineers, chemists, physicists, etc? If someone says they are not qualified, show me the CARFAX.Why are they not qualified? Let's put their resume's up against the foreign competition.
