Bill Kristol Announces, ‘There Will Be An Independent Candidate’

Neoconservative political operative Bill Kristol announced Sunday that an independent candidate will enter the presidential race to challenge both Donald Trump and the Democratic Party nominee.

Kristol, the editor of The Weekly Standard, has been trying for months to find a third-party challenger since his preferred candidates lost in the Republican primaries to Trump. Now, just weeks after meeting with Mitt Romney to talk about a third-party run, Kristol hinted Sunday that his plot is coming to fruition.

Kristol made his announcement on the same day that Gary Johnson locked up the Libertarian Party nomination for president. However, the Libertarian Party is not an “independent” ticket.

Kristol has floated names including Mitt Romney, Tom Cotton, and Marco Rubio as potential third-party spoilers to run on his “Latter-Day Republicans” ticket. Kristol recently met with Romney in Washington, D.C., to talk about the idea.

The Republican National Committee has already condemned Kristol’s third-party scheme as “helping to elect Hillary Clinton.”

Kristol’s attempt to get retired Marine Corps general James Mattis to run failed when Mattis turned him down.

Romney has consistently bashed Trump throughout this election cycle, even after Trump became the presumptive Republican nominee.

I hope his plan to take votes away from Trump fails miserably. The last thing we need is Hillary in the white house, and her appointing pro-illegal immigration and anti-second amendment supreme court justices.

Bill Kristol is part of the problem. He is the media side to the disenfranchised republican voter. He as many other Senators and Congressman need to be replaced and forgotten for now.

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump took aim Sunday night at Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol, who suggested on Twitter that news of an "impressive" independent conservative presidential candidate is forthcoming.

In a series of tweets, Trump criticized Kristol, calling him a "dummy" and "an embarrassed loser," suggesting the pundit reflects a lack of party unity that could affect the ideological composition of the Supreme Court.

"The Republican Party has to be smart & strong if it wants to win in November. Can't allow lightweights to set up a spoiler Indie candidate!" Trump tweeted.

Kristol did not give any indication of who the perspective candidate might be, other than saying the person will have a "strong team and a real chance."

A persistent critic of the presumptive GOP nominee, Kristol has repeatedly been the center of rumblings and machinations around a possible independent bid.
Earlier in May, Kristol met with former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to discuss possible options for independent candidates.

CNN reached out to Kristol but the message was not immediately returned.

All talk Kristol! His ego is shattered, will have foolish thoughts as he is now. They forget so easily and quickly that despite their feelings about Trump, Hillary is not an option. If you are not on board at this point you still have plenty of time, but if you make efforts to stop Trump, you may as well support Hillary.

Bill Kristol is as much the enemy as any hard core Marxist. Our last chance to stop the destruction of America is Donald Trump, with all of his flaws. Kristol with his never Trimp fanaticism is helping to elect Hillary Clinton. He is a low live piece of garbage that should be driven off of planet Earth. What ever any patriot may think about Dnald Trump, Kristol must be destroyed as an influence on American politics. Kristol IS THE ENEMY BY HIS OWN CHOICE. BENEDICT ARNOLD KRISTOL.

I think something that would even things out, is if someone can find a liberal third party candidate(one with enough name recognition to make a difference) to run against Hillary to draw enough votes away from her so that Trump can still beat Hillary. Then Kristol's candidate would not make a difference in the election.

Donald Trump lashed out at conservative political analyst Bill Kristol on Twitter Sunday after Kristol hinted the businessman could face competition from an independent candidate in November."Just a heads up over this holiday weekend," Kristol said on Twitter. "There will be an independent candidate--an impressive one, with a strong team and a real chance."

The presumptive Republican nominee wasted no time firing back at Kristol:

Trump locked up the Republican nomination earlier this month, but questions linger about his ability to unify the party.

Kristol, editor of the conservative opinion magazine The Weekly Standard, has openly speculated for weeks about enlisting an independent candidate to take on Trump in the general election.

Possible names that have been floated include 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse and even billionaire businessman Mark Cuban.

Kristol was one of 22 prominent conservative thinkers who signed an anti-Trump manifesto in January, when Trump was narrowly leading a wide-open Republican primary with 12 candidates.

To date so far, everyone that has gotten into Trumps way has been demolished. Hillary continues to feed him some of the best debating subjects each week which can ultimately destroy her if used properly in the debates. Kristol is no different than the politicians Trump has defeated along the way to his frontrunner and presumptive nominee status. His career is ending and he knows it. His out of touch commentary and elitism no longer has a place in the republican party. When he makes his move (if he even does), this idea will implode as well.
