Border security needed for safety

Regarding "Thompson on illegal entrants: No amnesty and speak English" (Oct. 28, Page A-14): Fred Thompson's principles are right on. America should strengthen the Border Patrol and make English the official language.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, 500,000 illegal aliens reside in Arizona alone -- that is one out of every 12 people. One illegal alien is caught for every three that make it across the border. Arizona taxpayers have to pay $1.3 billion annually for education, medical care and criminal imprisonment for these people. Incidentally, that state is also now No. 1 nationally in carjacking, home invasion and identity theft. There is a reason. State Rep. Russell Pearce declared that one in 10 people illegally crossing the border have a prior felony conviction. Apparently, greater border security is needed for citizen safety and welfare.

No, they are NOT all innocent job seekers. Such a one was Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, the infamous illegal alien drug runner confronted by Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean near El Paso, TX, in February, 2005. At the time of the incident, Ramos and Compean didn't know Aldrete Davila had any dope in his vehicle, but when it was opened sometime after the confrontation, OVER 700 LBS of MARIJUANA were found in it!
