U.S. Military to the Border…OUR Border, For a Change

    Rick Oltman

They can do the job, if they're allowed.

Two months ago the U.S. Border Patrol visited property owners near the New Mexico-Arizona-Mexican border seeking signed permission to allow the U.S. military to enter their property. The Border Patrol can enter any private property within 25 miles of the border, the U.S. military needs permission. Some owners agreed while others did not.

Joint Task Force North begins deploying in that area next week.

JTF North is the DoD organization tasked to support our nation's federal law enforcement agencies in the identification and interdiction of suspected transnational threats within and along the approaches to the continental United States. Transnational threats are those activities that involve international terrorism, narco-trafficking, alien smuggling, weapons of mass destruction, and includes the delivery systems for such weapons that threaten the national security of the United States.

    Why now?

Why is the most pro-illegal alien President in our country’s history deploying JTF North to the Mexican border? Did the federal government just now figure out that there is narco-trafficking and alien smuggling across our southern border? Or, is it international terrorism or do they have some intel on the potential entry of weapons of mass destruction?

If illegal entries are really down as the feckless feds assert, and nobody who knows anything about the border believes they are, then why deploy the military? Is illegal alien traffic increasing?

    Well why wouldn’t it?

The Obama Administration has been telling the whole world for three years to come to America and we won’t stop you. We won’t stop you from entering illegally, we won’t stop you from working illegally and we won’t deport you. That has been the message from the entire corrupt administration. Every appointment he has made and every policy that has been announced by the government has supported illegal aliens.

    Is it politics?

Is the Obama administration attempting to take the border security and illegal immigration issue away from the Republican presidential candidates? It's a winning issue, enforcement. Not that any of them have shown any real interest in border security or workplace enforcement. Some quite the opposite.

There are several efforts to encourage, insist…demand that the Republican candidates visit the border while they are in Arizona this month to campaign and debate.

JTF North will deploy next week. The following week the Republicans will be debating in Mesa and the week after that is the Arizona Presidential Primary Election. Coincidence?

One AP news report says the military will only be in a “support role,” not enforcement.

That is not what I hear. They will be deploying in known drug trafficking areas with night vision devices and other technology. And, since the drug mules now are now accompanied by two men with AK-47s, one in front and one in the rear (a group matching this description was reported near Willcox, AZ over 60 miles north of the border as recently as Wednesday of this week) our troops had better be armed, and I don’t mean with bean bag rounds.

Glenn Spencer of American Patrol passed a convoy of Army Stryker vehicles headed southbound on Hwy 92 towards Ft. Huachuca and Sierra Vista on Thursday. He posted a video on the AmericanPatrol website. Any connection to JTFN is not confirmed at this time.

Everything the federal government says and does regarding border security has to be viewed askance.

On the other hand, this could be a sincere effort.

It could be part of a plan to put pressure on the Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations. If the DTO’s drugs can be interdicted then the cash flow that finances the barbaric Mexican drug war will be impeded, giving the corrupt Mexican government a chance to take back the country they have lost to the NGO drug cartels. But, I’m just speculating here.

I do support using the military on the border and have been suggesting it for years. Have our helicopter pilots to train on the border. They have to learn to fly at night with night vision goggles, nap of the earth, hilly and desert terrain. Have them practice on the border. If they see something, report it to the Border Patrol in that sector. The smugglers won’t know if the chopper is a BP bird or a training mission. Arm them. If they take fire from the ground, then…well, you know.

No word yet on if JTF North will deploy to Peck Canyon, north of Nogales, where Bortac Agent Brian Terry was killed in December 2010. They should. Peck Canyon is about as secure as Afghanistan. Maybe they could escort a Republican Presidential Candidate to the place Agent Terry was killed, if one was to decide he wanted to go there to make a statement about securing the border. Sorry, just speculating again.

We will learn more as the mission unfolds. If JTF North is successful in seizing drugs, but we begin hear reports that they have been ordered to allow non-contraband smuggling illegal aliens to pass through, then we will have a pretty good idea about what is going on.

Then the mission would turn out to be just another example of the U.S. military guarding a border for the benefit of another country.

And there is nothing new about that.

Terrorist Group Setting Up Operations Near Border

Hezbollah Considered To Be More Advanced Than Al-Qaida

    UPDATED: 6:27 pm PDT May 4, 2011

    VIDEO AT LINK:

SAN DIEGO -- A terrorist organization whose home base is in the Middle East has established another home base across the border in Mexico.

"They are recognized by many experts as the 'A' team of Muslim terrorist organizations," a former U.S. intelligence agent told 10News.

The former agent, referring to Shi'a Muslim terrorist group Hezbollah, added, "They certainly have had successes in big-ticket bombings."

Some of the group's bombings include the U.S. embassy in Beirut and Israeli embassy in Argentina.

However, the group is now active much closer to San Diego.

"We are looking at 15 or 20 years that Hezbollah has been setting up shop in Mexico," the agent told 10News.

Since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, U.S. policy has focused on al-Qaida and its offshoots.

"They are more shooters than thinkers … it's a lot of muscles, courage, desire but not a lot of training," the agent said, referring to al-Qaida.

Hezbollah, he said, is far more advanced.

"Their operators are far more skilled … they are the equals of Russians, Chinese or Cubans," he said. "I consider Hezbollah much more dangerous in that sense because of strategic thinking; they think more long-term."

Hezbolah has operated in South America for decades and then Central America, along with their sometime rival, sometime ally Hamas. Now, the group is blending into Shi'a Muslim communities in Mexico, including Tijuana. Other pockets along the U.S.-Mexico border region remain largely unidentified as U.S. intelligence agencies are focused on the drug trade."

They have had clandestine training in how to live in foreign hostile territories," the agent said.T

he agent, who has spent years deep undercover in Mexico, said Hezbollah is partnering with drug organizations, but which ones is not clear at this time.

He told 10News the group receives cartel cash and protection in exchange for Hezbollah expertise."

From money laundering to firearms training and explosives training," the agent said.F

or example, he tracked, along with Mexican intelligence, two Hezbollah operatives in safe houses in Tijuana and Durango"I

confirmed the participation of cartel members as well as other Hezbollah individuals living and operating out of there," he said.

Tunnels the cartels have built that cross from Mexico into the U.S. have grown increasingly sophisticated. It is a learned skill, the agent said points to Hezbollah's involvement.

"Where are the knowledgeable tunnel builders? Certainly in the Middle East," he said.

Why have Americans not heard more about Hezbollah's activities happening so close to the border?

"If they really wanted to start blowing stuff up, they could do it," the agent said.

According to the agent, the organization sees the U.S. as their "cash cow," with illegal drug and immigration operations. Many senior Hezbollah leaders are wealthy businessmen, the agent said.

"The money they are sending back to Lebanon is too important right now to jeopardize those operations," he said.

The agent said the real concern is the group's long-term goal of radicalizing Muslim communities.

"They're focusing on developing … infiltrating communities within North America," the agent told 10News.
