Calif. Protesters Beat Cop With His Baton While Rallying Against Tuition Hikes
Posted on November 18, 2010 at 2:47pm by Jonathon M. Seidl

After violence erupted Wednesday when a University of California committee began considering a tuition increase, on Thursday that committee approved the plan to raise student fees by 8 percent next fall while expanding financial aid to more students.

Protesters begin crowding around an officer during protests at UC San Francisco.
Thursday morning’s vote by the finance committee of the UC Board of Regents comes a day after a student protest outside the meeting at the University of San Francisco, which left four police officers injured and lead to more than a dozen protester arrests.

According to KGO-TV in San Francisco, one officer had to pull his gun when a group of 40 protesters jumped him in a parking garage. The group wrestled the officer’s baton away from him and were beating him with it. [b]When the officer drew his gun, the Daily Nexus reports, the small mob began chanting “Take his gun!â€

This is SO scary! What is this state coming to? What is happening here? All I can say is this is total insanity. I don't blame the students and teachers for being upset - not one bit! But beating a cop up over it!? Thats over the top.

The best way these students, teachers and their families could protest is to leave the state.

The problem is with a LIBERAL police force and justice system ...

the VAST majority of students who maybe up set , are proably rational about it and understand the economic situation of cali ...

the protesters getting violent are proably anarchists etc .... too often the police repulse them , or give them light terms once they get to court ....

what they NEED to do is wait until the rioting starts and then hunt down the rabble rouser , then JAIL them for a good long time and make a public spectical of them ..

That's the problem with liberals. They want everyone admitted and then bitch when tuition is increased and class size swells in some cases to 400 per class!

$11,000 a year for a UC school is still relatively cheap! The UC and Cal State system from inception were intended to provide educational opportunites for CA residents and not illegal invaders from mexico. How many illegal invaders are enrolled in the UC and Cal State system I wonder!

Perhaps if CA didn't have millions of illegal invaders( yea, the same invaders we give in-state tuition to) bankrupting our state, tuition wouldn't have to increase every year.

Don't get pissed at the cops, get pissed off at illegal invaders!

Maybe fees are going up because so many illegals get in-state tuition. According to federal law, if the school gives in-state tuition to illegals, they must give the same rate to all students. And they wonder why they're losing money.

This is what the lawsuit was about. No they do not have to give the same rate to all students, they got around the federal law by saying in-state tuition applied to students who have attended highschool in CA for 3 years.
