    It reminds me of mall cops. "Are you stupid?".

    From what I can hear in their tone, they seemed to be confused the entire time. These people are the ones used to the social thought of "Authority asks, so authority must be answered", when in reality there is no requirement to answer anyone by law.

    They truly thought he was in the wrong, and no, it is not an excuse for them, but it explains their behavior.
