Editor confused on ‘immigrants'

November 22, 2012 2:54 PM

Once again our esteemed editor in his Nov. 18 column has equated legal immigration with illegal immigration by lumping all under the heading of “immigrants.”

He talks of all the contributions made by “immigrants,” hopefully meaning legal immigrants and on that I agree.

Now let's talk about the illegal immigrants. The illegals tend to make up large numbers of those incarcerated at our expense, a great many are on some form of government handout and, yes, they are “takers.”

Number one, we should cut off any government goodies to illegals — period! Why do we pamper those who have broken our laws?

Number two, we need to secure the border and, yes, it can be done!

Number three, those who remain and get amnesty should not be allowed to vote for 20 years and be able to show they have a needed skill and can support themselves. Other countries have this provision, why can't we? This provision would show us just how important amnesty is to the liberals.

And number four, we need a workable guest worker program for those who want to come here to work then go home to their country of origin.

The editor says our immigration laws are not broken. They may not be broken, but we need to make legal immigration a smoother process so the illegals can come here the same way millions of others did: legally!
