Don't blame GOP for DREAM Act demise

Don't blame GOP for DREAM Act demise

    January 2, 2010

I was amused by the letter about Congress defeating the DREAM Act, which would have allowed a path to citizenship for children brought into this country when their parents entered illegally. Amused not by the contents of the act or whether it should have passed or failed, but by the typical distortion of the facts as to why it failed.

The writer blamed Republicans as the party of "no," but like most liberals, missed the fact that Democrats have had opportunities to pass this bill since 2006. They have been in the majority in both houses of Congress since then. I am sure if they wanted to expend the political capital they could have gotten one or two of the RINOs (Republicans in Name Only) to vote for it and hit the 60 votes needed in the Senate to avoid a filibuster. But they chose not to. Guess it wasn't that important to them.

The Democrats in the Senate could have passed it this last December when they had 58 Democratic senators and two independents who caucus with them, but they were too busy cramming that health care abomination down our throats to bother with the DREAM Act, originally proposed years ago.

They had the votes to get it done last year, but I guess it wasn't important enough then, or Harry Reid couldn't offer the same "inducements" to his Democratic senators to get it done.

So blame them for its failure.

    Illegals

Do not blame the Republicans. Americans did not want amnesty for illegal aliens. And we do not want it. We will continue fighting illegal immigration. And we will never accept amnesty for illegals. So do not blame the Republicans.

I blame Republicans for FAILING to secure the border, getting rid of anchor baby provisions, fines and jail terms for employers and poor records of deportations when they had the majority in both houses and also the judicial and executive branches.

Under their wink and cross the border and rape, pillage and bankrupt the middle class, claim benefits, pay no taxes and send money home, they have created this invasion. They have actually aided and abetted it.

We need to watch them carefully and demand action, laws with teeth for fines and penalties that are implemented and include audit methods to check to make sure they are being enforced. E-verify is nothing but a joke for most employers who continue to ignore it.
