    DREAM Act & Refugees

Two bad bills that are being promoted by all the pro-open border groups (below is the email I received from a open borders lobbying group today) - please call your Senators to vote against them: These have NO place in the Defense Bill!

Make the Defense Bill Work For Us

This week as part of the Department of Defense Authorization, we expect that there will be two key amendments offered. Please contact your senators today and ask them to vote for:

The DREAM Act (Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors Act), S. 774, sponsored by Senator Durbin would provide a path to legalization for young people who were brought to the United States without documents by their parents. This act was part of the effort at Comprehensive Immigration Reform that failed in the Senate this past July. It has Democratic and Republican sponsors and is a sane way to deal with the fact that many young adults know only the U.S. reality and have no other country or family to return to. Urge your Senators to vote YES on this key amendment.

The Refugee Crisis in Iraq Act, S.1651, sponsored by Senators Kennedy, Smith, and twelve other senators from both parties is a partial response to the more than 2.2 million Iraqis who have fled their homes because of violence and are now living outside of Iraq. It would help these victims of terrorism by prioritizing vulnerable individuals, providing expedited special immigrant visas for those who have helped U.S. troops, and allowing those who seek safety to efficiently apply for relief. (Note: To be admitted to the United States, Iraqis must pass extended screening processes in addition to rigorous background checks and security procedures mandated for all refugees.)

Please call and/or email your senators today and ask them to vote yes on these two amendments. The Capitol switchboard number is 202-224-3121.
