Urgent: Vote on DREAM?
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi just said she wants action on the DREAM Act. That's a big deal!

According to Politico:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants to push for a vote during the lame-duck session on a bill that would legalize young, undocumented immigrants if they attend college or serve in the military, according to Democratic sources familiar with a leadership conference call Wednesday.
Before she gets flooded by angry anti-immigrant hate mail, we're thanking her for her support and letting her know why the DREAM Act is so critical right now:

Join us: Tell Pelosi and Reid, "Thanks for stepping up. It's time for a vote on DREAM!"

We're also copying Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who promised to move the DREAM Act during the last few weeks of this Congress. We'll thank him for his support and remind him how hard we're working to make the DREAM real.

Even though 70% of Americans support allowing immigrant youth to earn their citizenship through two years of college or military service, passing the DREAM Act in the next few weeks will be tough - we're going to have to fight our hearts out to make sure our leaders schedule the vote, Republicans come to the table, and Blue Dog Democrats don't cave.

This is our best chance to pass relief for a million undocumented youth before an anti-immigrant wave takes hold of Congress - we can't afford to wait.

Dear Senator Reid and Speaker Pelosi,

I write to thank you for your recent support of the DREAM Act. I agree that now is the time to bring this crucial piece of legislation up for a vote.

As you know, the DREAM Act is a popular bipartisan proposal that would create a pathway to earned citizenship for thousands of young people who were brought to the United States years ago as children. These children have grown up in our communities and include honor roll students, star athletes, talented artists, homecoming queens, and aspiring teachers, doctors, and U.S. soldiers. Currently, these "kids without a country" are blocked from giving back to the country they call home.

It is critical that we pass the DREAM Act during this lame duck session, before a less tolerant Congress steps into power. I look forward to you scheduling the DREAM Act vote, and I'll be working hard alongside you to make sure it passes.
