F.B.I. Interviews Hillary Clinton Over Private Email Server

F.B.I. Interviews Hillary Clinton Over Private Email Server

The F.B.I. interviewed Hillary Clinton on Saturday morning for its investigation into whether she or her aides broke the law by setting up a private email server for her use as secretary of state, her campaign said.

“Secretary Clinton gave a voluntary interview this morning about her email arrangements while she was secretary,” Nick Merrill, a campaign spokesman, said in a statement. “She is pleased to have had the opportunity to assist the Department of Justice in bringing this review to a conclusion.”

The interview, which lasted about three and a half hours at F.B.I. Headquarters in Washington, largely focused on the Justice Department’s central question of whether Mrs. Clinton’s actions met the legal standard for handling classified information. Shortly after the meeting, two black S.U.V.s were seen returning to Mrs. Clinton’s house in the capital. The appointment had been weeks in the making as both law enforcement and Mrs. Clinton’s team coordinated their schedules.

Accompanying Mrs. Clinton were her lawyer David E. Kendall; Cheryl D. Mills and Heather Samuelson, longtime aides who are also lawyers; and two lawyers from Mr. Kendall’s firm, Williams & Connolly, Katherine Turner and Amy Saharia.

Eight officials from the F.B.I. and the Department of Justice conducted the interview, according to a person who was familiar with the substance of the session but who declined to be named because the meeting was private. This person characterized the meeting as “civil” and “businesslike.” Neither the campaign nor the F.B.I. would elaborate on it.

The investigation has loomed over Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign, as Republicans have seized on the issue to question the presumptive Democratic nominee’s judgment. Although the interview on Saturday marked an important step toward closure on the issue, technical analysis of the material remains to be done and could stretch on for an undetermined period.

On Friday, the campaign of Donald J. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, blasted out an email titled “The Facts on Clinton’s Secret Server” that included articles about the emails marked classified that had been sent or stored on Mrs. Clinton’s private server.

The central question in the Justice Department effort is whether the actions met the legal standard for the crime of mishandling classified information.

Mrs. Clinton’s sit-down with the F.B.I. came amid controversy over a meeting between her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who ran into each other on Monday at the Phoenix airport while Mr. Clinton was fund-raising for his wife’s campaign.

To avoid any appearance of political meddling, Ms. Lynch said on Friday she would accept the recommendations of career prosecutors and the F.B.I. director regarding whether to bring charges. She said she had made that decision several months ago, before the criticism surrounding her meeting with Mr. Clinton.

She described the meeting as a casual conversation that did not touch on the investigation. But it added to the Clinton campaign’s headaches over the email inquiry, which they had hoped to put behind them before the Democratic convention this month.

“I certainly wouldn’t do it again,” Ms. Lynch said of the meeting.

Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private server and Republicans’ continued attacks have chipped away at her trust numbers. A Quinnipiac University poll released on Wednesday found that voters deemed Mr. Trump more honest and trustworthy than Mrs. Clinton, 45 percent to 37 percent.

Mrs. Clinton did not cooperate with a State Department inspector general’s audit of her email practices that concluded she had failed to comply with agency policies on record keeping.

But her campaign had said she would fully cooperate with the F.B.I.

“To our mind, it made sense to prioritize the review being conducted by the Justice Department, and so, accordingly, Hillary Clinton has said since last August she’d be happy to sit with them at whatever point they approach her, which has not happened yet,” a spokesman, Brian Fallon, told CNN in May.

Why are they interviewing her in HER home? On her turf where she is comfortable? Is that protocol? She should be at FBI headquarters in an interrogation room and made to squirm!

FBI Primary: Hillary’s First Term May Be in Prison After Bill’s Tampered AG

    POLITICS 22:01 02.07.2016(updated 04:41 03.07.2016)

The presumptive First Husband’s meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch may force the Obama administration’s hand to indict Hillary Clinton over her failure to protect US secrets and hand the presidency to Bernie Sanders.

The smartest man in America right now is Bernie Sanders. After facing a monumental trouncing at the hands of the corporate media and AP spin doctors who announced the race was over before California voters ever arrived at the polls, the insurgent Democratic challenger did something nobody expected – he stayed in the race and he refused to endorse Hillary Clinton.

That decision looks like it may just pay off with reports today that FBI investigators grilled the former Secretary of State for an astonishing four hours as the agency’s director James Comey received license to pursue the case to the very bounds of the law after months of Department of Justice stonewalling in the wake of Bill Clinton’s not so secret pow-wow at Sky Harbor airport with Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

The disgraced Attorney General claimed that the conversation with the husband of an investigation target who himself is a potential defendant or witness was merely lighthearted chatter about the grandchildren and how best to take a stand against the rising tide of crime in America.

Yet, even Loretta Lynch was forced to admit that the meeting created the appearance of impropriety and vowed to “take a step back” from the case amidst calls for her to recuse herself entirely from the proceedings. The Attorney General vowed that she will follow whatever recommendation she receives from the FBI even if James Comey’s office demands an indictment in the middle of the political season.

It has been reported by multiple outlets that FBI agents are clamoring for an immediate indictment against the former First Lady for compromising US national security secrets by housing the country’s vital diplomatic data on an entirely unsecured "homebrew" server to avoid complying with Freedom of Information Act disclosure requirements.

The investigation has already determined that numerous pieces of secret, top secret, and even higher than top secret information – SCIF data or information that can only be read inside of a Special Compartmentalized Information Facility.

Removal of data from a SCIF, as has been established Hillary Clinton has done is the most severe of potential claims. Given the high level of secrecy of SCIF data and the fact that it is held in a separate facility, the claim that the underlying act was unintentional would not hold weight in a court of law.

Perhaps most concerning was a recent revelation that the identity of undercover CIA agents may have been compromised by hackers who successfully accessed Hillary Clinton’s email system. At least 47 of the emails contain the notation B3 CIA PERS/ORG indicating that the material referred to CIA personnel.

Finally, the investigation has also uncovered that Hillary Clinton continued to use the system despite repeated reports that her email box was being hacked and even after one incident where State Department officials rushed to unplug the entire system due to an attempted security breach.

It is not surprising then that infamous hacker Guccifer, who exposed Hillary’s private email account by releasing documents sent to Clinton acolyte Sidney Blumenthal, claims that he repeatedly hacked the former Secretary of State’s email system "easily" calling it an "open orchid on the internet."

CIA whistleblower Edward Snowden recently made headlines bashing the Secretary of State pointing to the fact that he provided information to the public about mass surveillance to protect civil liberties but if he returned home he would face a lifelong prison sentence under the espionage act, but Hillary Clinton’s dereliction placed the country’s national security in peril and risked the lives of US personnel while being the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party.
