Did CEO of tech company Mozilla make the right move by resigning simply because he did not support gay marriage?

Daily Kos Boss Compares Brendan Eich to the KKK, Says Conservatives Should Cheer the Market

    By Tim Graham | April 7, 2014 | 11:26

Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas is speaking for the Left and tweaking the Right today by arguing "Brandon Eich was a victim of market forces, conservatives should applaud." He can't see that the gay lobby might look a bit like his book title "American Taliban."

He announces the very temporary CEO of Mozilla, is "a tech legend, the inventor of Javascript—a programming language that powers much of what's cool on the web," but "The problem with Eich is that, well, he's a bigot. And worse than that, he hasn't 'evolved' since 2008, like so much of America. He held steadfast to his beliefs, out-of-step with the world his product serves." Surrender, or you're the KKK, he wrote:

Of course this is intolerance. Would Sullivan rush to this guy's defense if it turned out he was a Grand Wizard in the KKK? Of course not. We are allowed to be intolerant of people who operate outside the bounds of civil decency. This wasn't governmental action infringing on any Constitutional rights. This was Mozilla developers saying they refused to do work with a bigot, private websites blocking access to the Firefox browser because they refused to do business with a bigot, and employees of the firm speaking up because they refused to work for a bigot.

In short, it was the free market expressing itself. Eich was perfectly within his rights to stay at Mozilla, but he would then face a hostile market and eventually faced the reality that he couldn't do his job in that environment. The free market spoke, and a free market enterprise was forced to react....

Conservative views on marriage equality are now fringe, and especially so with the younger people who matter most to marketers. So the free market they worship has turned against them. They can cry about "McCarthyism" all they want, but this is just market forces at work.

Moulitsas concluded by mocking someone should start "Bookmarks for Bigots" and headquarter it in Mississippi, where the idiots live.

OKCUPID'S CEO ALSO GUILTY OF ANTI-GAY CAMPAIGN DONATION

    by WARNER TODD HUSTON
    8 Apr 2014

On March 31st, users of the dating website OkCupid.com were greeted with a notice informing them that because Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich donated to a pro-traditional marriage campaign, users of Mozilla's Firefox web browser were banned from the OkCupid website. But now it has come to light that the CEO of OkCupid also made a political donation offensive to gay activists.

According to records unearthed by Mother Jones, OkCupid CEO Sam Yagan donated to a politician that was a very staunch supporter of issues reviled by gay activists. In 2004, Yagan donated $500 to his local Congressman, Chris Cannon (R-UT).

Cannon was a conservative who voted for a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, voted against a ban preventing employers firing employees based on their sexual preference, voted to prohibit gays from adopting children, and on a host of other issues voted against the progressive gay agenda.

Author Hannah Levintova notes that Yagan also donated to Barack Obama in 2007 and 2008, so it's "quite possible that Yagan's politics have changed since 2004." However, Obama opposed same-sex marriage during that campaign, just like Eich and Cannon.

Still, even MJ points out that since Yagan did something nearly the same as Mozilla's Eich, the OkCupid Firefox ban seems like a "<acronym title="Google Page Ranking">PR</acronym> stunt" as opposed to any "impassioned act of protest."

Brendan Eich held his CEO position in Mozilla, a company he co-founded, for less than a week before progressive activists destroyed his career by making his company pressure him to quit.

The dating website OkCupid was one of those groups lending its assistance to the hit squad aligned against Mozilla.

OkCupid displayed message on the screens of Firefox users informing them that since Brendan Eich donated $1,000 to a pro-traditional marriage campaign in 2008, users of his web browser were not welcome at the dating website.

Gay activists celebrated the efforts of OkCupid to destroy Brendan Eich because of his religious and political views--ideas that he never imposed on his company, Mozilla.

After OkCupid did its part to destroy Eich, the dating site posted a new message trumpeting the scalp it took, saying, "We are pleased that OkCupid’s boycott has brought tremendous awareness to the critical matter of equal rights for all partnerships."

But there's a hitch: OkCupid's co-founder and CEO Sam Yagan once donated to an anti-gay candidate. (Yagan is also CEO of Match.com.) Specifically, Yagan donated $500 to Rep. Chris Cannon (R-Utah) in 2004, reports Uncrunched. During his time as congressman from 1997 to 2009, Cannon voted for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, against a ban on sexual-orientation based job discrimination, and for prohibition of gay adoptions.
OkCupid's CEO Donated to an Anti-Gay Campaign Once, Too

Last week, the online dating site OkCupid switched up its homepage for Mozilla Firefox users.Upon opening the site, a message appeared encouraging members to curb their use of Firefox because the company's new CEO, Brendan Eich, allegedly opposes equality for gay couples—specifically, he donated $1000 to the campaign for the anti-gay Proposition 8 in 2008. "We've devoted the last ten years to bringing people—all people—together," the message read. "If individuals like Mr. Eich had their way, then roughly 8% of the relationships we've worked so hard to bring about would be illegal." The company's action went viral, and within a few days, Eich had resigned as CEO of Mozilla only weeks after taking up the post. On Thursday, OkCupid released a statement saying "We are pleased that OkCupid's boycott has brought tremendous awareness to the critical matter of equal rights for all individuals and partnerships."

He's also voted for numerous anti-choice measures, earning a 0 percent rating from NARAL Pro Choice America. Among other measures, Cannon voted for laws prohibiting government from denying funds to medical facilities that withhold abortion information, stopping minors from crossing state lines to obtain an abortion, and banning family planning funding in US aid abroad. Cannon also earned a 7 percent rating from the ACLU for his poor civil rights voting record: He voted to amend FISA to allow warrant-less electronic surveillance, to allow NSA intelligence gathering without civil oversight, and to reauthorize the PATRIOT act.

Of course, it's been a decade since Yagan's donation to Cannon, and a decade or more since many of Cannon's votes on gay rights. It's possible that Cannon's opinions have shifted, or maybe his votes were more politics than ideology; a tactic by the Mormon Rep. to satisfy his Utah constituency. It's also quite possible that Yagan's politics have changed since 2004: He donated to Barack Obama's campaign in 2007 and 2008.

Perhaps even Firefox's Eich has rethought LGBT equality since his 2008 donation. But OkCupid didn't include any such nuance in its take-down of Firefox. Combine that with the fact that the company helped force out one tech CEO for something its own CEO also did, and its action last week starts to look more like a PR stunt than an impassioned act of protest. (Mother Jones reached out to OkCupid for comment: We'll update this post if we receive a response.)

If You Do Not Conform, The Thought Nazis WILL Get You

By Michael Snyder, on April 3rd, 2014

If you do not conform to the new politically correct moral code in America, you cannot be a CEO of a major corporation. If you think that I am joking, just read on. I am actually deadly serious. If you are a young person in America today, what you believe about certain issues is going to determine how high you can climb the ladder in your professional life. In fact, a day is rapidly approaching when anyone that wants to have any measure of professional success in our society is going to have to conform to the moral code. If you choose not to conform, the thought Nazis WILL get you.
Just check out what happened to Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich this week. He was forced outafter it was discovered that he had donated $1,000 to support Proposition 8 back in 2008…
Mozilla Chief Executive Brendan Eich has stepped down, the company said on Thursday, after an online dating service urged a boycott of the company’s web browser because of a donation Eich made to opponents of gay marriage.
He broke the politically-correct moral code of the thought Nazis, so he must pay.
It doesn’t matter that 52 percent of the voters in California actually voted in favor of Proposition 8.
It doesn’t matter that this is something that happened six years ago.
It doesn’t even matter that he was really good at his job
While gay activists applauded the move, many in the technology community lamented the departure of Eich, who invented the programming language Javascript and co-founded Mozilla.
“Brendan Eich is a good friend of 20 years, and has made a profound contribution to the Web and to the entire world,” venture capitalist Marc Andreessen tweeted.
He broke the code and so he must pay.
And in case you are wondering, this basically means that anyone who is against gay marriage is now essentially disqualified from being CEO of any major corporation in America.
So if you are a CEO and you are reading this, you better keep your mouth shut if you want to keep your job.
The thought Nazis are monitoring you.
But this isn’t just happening in the private sector. According to a stunning Buzzfeed report, Barack Obama told the top military officers in this country that they could either support the end of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell or they could resign…
In a meeting with the heads of the five service branches in 2010, President Obama offered the leaders a choice: Support my efforts to end the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy, or resign, the Commandant of the Coast Guard said.
In a video obtained by BuzzFeed via a Freedom of Information Act request, Coast Guard Commandant Adm. Robert Papp revealed that Obama was unwilling to compromise with service leaders over DADT during a meeting in 2010. “We were called into the Oval Office and President Obama looked all five service chiefs in the eye and said, ‘This is what I want to do.’ I cannot divulge everything he said to us, that’s private communications within the Oval Office, but if we didn’t agree with it — if any of us didn’t agree with it — we all had the opportunity to resign our commissions and go do other things,” he said.
Could this have something to do with the widespread purging of the militarythat has taken place under Obama?
That is a very good question.
But one thing is crystal clear – if you want to rise to the top of the U.S. military in the future, you better conform to the new moral code.
If not, the thought Nazis will come after you.
We live at a time when political correctness in America has gotten completely and totally out of control. If you can believe it, there is even a major movementto ban the word “bossy”
Sheryl Sandberg, the Chief Operating Officer of Facebook and author of the best-selling book “Lean In,” has recruited a slew of celebrities to launch a national campaign to ban the word “bossy,” claiming it discourages girls from taking on leadership roles.
“I think the word ‘bossy’ is just a squasher,” “Glee” star Jane Lynch says in a campaign PSA, while Beyonce states: “I’m not bossy… I’m the boss.” Actress Jennifer Garner asserts that “being labeled something matters,” and famed fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg adds the kicker that we “should just ban the word ‘bossy’.”
Singer Victoria Beckham, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Girl Scouts USA CEO Anna Maria Chavez and CNN foreign correspondent Christiane Amanpour are also involved in the campaign urging the word be silenced.
If we continue down this path, what will this nation look like in a few years?
During a recent interview, Dr. Ben Carson compared the current political environment in the United States to Nazi Germany
“[We're] very much like Nazi Germany,” he responded. “And I know you’re not supposed to say ‘Nazi Germany,’ but I don’t care about political correctness. You know, you had a government using its tools to intimidate the population.”
“We now live in a society where people are afraid to say what they actually believe,” he continued. “And it’s because of the PC police, it’s because of politicians, it’s because of news. All of these things are combining to stifle people’s conversation.”
    And you know what?
    He is right.
We are becoming more like Nazi Germany with each passing day. In fact, if you want to read much more about this, please see my previous article entitled “25 Signs That America Is Rapidly Becoming More Like Nazi Germany“.
In America, we are supposed to be able to believe what we want to believe.
In recent years, about half of the nation has been in favor of gay marriage and about half the nation has been against it.
Are we now going to tell half the country that they are going to be banned from holding any high position in our society unless they conform to the new moral code?
What kind of country will we have if we do that?

THE PEOPLE'S CUBE: Mozilla Announces New Add-Ons

Guest post by The People's Cube

This just in: Mozilla has launched a new browser called BackFireFox. But seriously, folks, what's the firing of some Mozilla CEO with old-fashioned views on marriage compared to the potential advancements in technology the progressive Mozilla team can unleash once it's been liberated from this guy's heteronormative oppression?

All Brendan Eich has ever done was invent JavaScript. But we all know that the world-wide proletarian revolution is being organized according to a different script, which does not involve Java.

Here is just a small sampling of new Mozilla plug-ins, extensions, and themes proposed by us on Twitter hashtag #NewMozillaAdOns.
