Federal Court Deals Serious Blow to Holder’s Attack on Voter ID Law

    Published on: August 9, 2014

A recent ruling by a federal court is an embarrassing defeat for the Holder Justice Department. The court’s decision eviscerates Eric Holder’s politicized and racially inflammatory legal assault on commonsense election integrity measures. The court expressly rejected the Department of Justice’s contention that minorities are harmed by commonsense measures that help secure honest elections. The court’s dramatic rejection of Holder’s legal theory shows that that the DOJ’s lawsuit, which was coordinated with political activists at the White House, was always more about cynical political and racial appeals than upholding the law.

    PJMedia reports:
The left trumpeted a voter ID decision in Wisconsin as if it were the end of the issue. Let’s see what they do with this one. A federal court today smacked down the Holder Justice Department and refused to enjoin (block) North Carolina’s voter ID law, curtailment of costly early voting and end of fraud-infested same day registration. This means the state’s voter ID law will be in place for the midterm congressional (and Senate) elections in November.

The Justice Department had actually argued that even if black voters turned out at higher rates under voter ID (which they do), because blacks have to take the bus more and their life is generally harder, then voter ID and curtailing early voting violates the Voting Rights Act.

The Justice Department actually used your tax dollars to pay for an expert to introduce the turnout-doesn’t-matter-because-life-is-harder argument. Enterprising folks will submit a Freedom of Information request to find out how many tens of thousands of dollars that nonsense costs you.

Obama and Holder’s DOJ, along with their usual accomplices, have been fighting against voter ID laws for some time claiming that they are racist (the usual mantra from this administration) and that they are directly attacking poor people. One of the interesting things is that in my country of South Carolina, I discovered when taking two of my children to get their driver’s permit that anyone over the age of 16 can get a state ID absolutely free!

Voter ID laws are neither bad nor racist. They are merely an attempt to confirm that those voting have the right to do so. Anyone who says otherwise is simply encouraging fraud and lawlessness.

Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton said that decision was a serious blow to the DOJ.
“It is an embarrassing defeat for the Holder Justice Department. The court’s decision eviscerates Eric Holder’s politicized and racially inflammatory legal assault on commonsense election integrity measures. The court expressly rejected the Department of Justice’s contention that minorities are harmed by commonsense measures that help secure honest elections. The court’s dramatic rejection of Holder’s legal theory shows that that the DOJ’s lawsuit, which was coordinated with political activists at the White House, was always more about cynical political and racial appeals than upholding the law.”

While the Obama administration has been engaged for years in political ploys to pit Americans against each other over voter ID laws, the statistics are not on their side. In fact, a Fox News poll in May of this year showed that 70 percent of Americans are in favor of voters being mandated to produce identification in order to vote.

Wall Street Journal’s Jason Riley said, “There’s been a tremendous amount of racial progress in this country when it comes to voting and voting patterns. And you have these interest groups trying to sell a completely different narrative that has no basis in reality.”

Obviously, there has been progress when it comes to racism in the United States. However, it is ironic that the man touted as the first black president has been the source of stirring up racial tensions at every turn.

The DOJ has challenged the rights of the states to determine these laws, something that is clearly unconstitutional. Now it appears that every day we see the system smack down the Obama administration for its criminal activities. This is just the latest in a long line of violations of the law by this administration. For these rulings, the American people can be thankful, yet still remain vigilant.
