Feds raid multiple alleged ‘Chinese birthing houses’ in maternity tourism scheme

LOS ANGELES — A recent raid in California was centered around a booming industry that was charging pregnant women from around the globe to enter the U.S. to give birth.
Clients paid “Chinese birthing houses” to ensure their children received American citizenship.
Some of the businesses charged between $15,000 and $50,000 for lodging, transportation and food an ICE spokeswoman told KTLA.
Clients were told that their children would receive U.S. Social Security numbers and passports. The agencies also told the women they would be able to apply for U.S. visas for family members abroad.
According to authorities the mothers were coached to wear loose clothing and to give false reasons for travel to the U.S.
“It’s not illegal to have your baby born in the United States, but it is illegal to lie about your reasons for travel,” ICE Special Agent Claude Arnold told KTLA. “In these cases, the women were misrepresenting their reason for travel. They were concealing the fact that they were pregnant, and they were coached by the businesses on how to do that.”
Authorities are still looking for more evidence that the businesses brought in and harbored undocumented visitors.

Is concealing a pregnancy a crime? Is it currently illegal to travel to the US to have a baby without disclosing that to someone on a visa application? Is this like selling movie tickets and asking someone do you want to see the movie when you really want to see a girl you think might be there?

These people didn't do anything wrong under the law. What is wrong is that the US government is granting automatic birthright citizenship to children of foreign tourists, visa immigrants, visa students and illegal aliens. That is not what the 14th Amendment provided for, it provided for automatic birthright citizenship to children born under the jurisdiction of the United States, which is NOT limited to the exclusion of just diplomats. So don't blame these Chinese who came in on a visa to visit our country and have a baby to whom the US government in its total incompetency will grant citizenship. No child of a foreign visitor or visa holder or illegal alien should be granted US citizenship because these people are not under the jurisdiction of the United States, they are citizens of another country and under their jurisdiction.

This whole mess is so convoluted, so screwed up, so out of control, that Congress needs to pass a 10 Year Moratorium on all new immigration so this whole disaster can be stopped, fixed and reset so this nonsense never ever happens again.

And pass Steve Kings' bill to at least stop the insanity of granting automatic birthright citizenship to children of illegal aliens, perhaps add to that for clarity, that only children of aliens with permanent resident green cards will be granted US citizenship.

it wont do any good to shut down the birth houses without securing the borders where the Chinese illegals are streaming across into America.

Actually it won't help stop anything related to anchor babies until we pass a law that bans the government from granting citizenship to children of non-citizens unless the parents have been issued green cards for permanent legal residence.

When asked, one of the people most responsible for writing the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments said that foreigners, children of diplomats, and people in the country temporarily were not intended to be covered.

If the justices of the Supreme Court or more likely, their clerks - were willing to look at the text of the discussions regarding those amendments, it would be easy to see that birthright citizenship goes specifically against the intent of the Amendment's writers.

There was case which some claim establishes birthright citizenship. Wong Kim Ark, I think. But that person was in fact the child of people who were considered to be permanent residents.

That's why the 14th Amendment contains the words, subject to the jurisdiction thereof, which means owing no allegiance to a foreign sovereignty or foreign power.

    Yep.

The people who wrote the Constitution and its amendments did not waste words. So when we want to know their intent, it's sometimes necessary to research their comments during debates. The "no allegiance" issue should be an easy one to settle, because people who are citizens of a foreign country owe allegiance to that country by definition. That doesn't mean that they like their government, just that they remain subject to it.

We may have to enact a law for the slow learners in the group, but that really should not be necessary. The people who wrote the Reconstruction Amendments - the 13th, 14th, and 15th - were clear about the 14th not pertaining to foreigners.
