Few Voters See Clinton’s Health, Trump’s Taxes as Top Concerns — WSJ/NBC News Poll

Few Voters See Clinton’s Health, Trump’s Taxes as Top Concerns — WSJ/NBC News Poll

Some of the recent lines of attack that presidential campaigns are using against each other are drawing little interest from voters, among them Democratic criticism of Donald Trump’s refusal to release his tax returns and Republican comments about Hillary Clinton’s health, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll finds.

Instead, voters are more concerned about broader issues that have dogged the two candidates for months, the poll finds. Those include Mr. Trump’s temperament and inflammatory comments about women, immigrants and other groups, and Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state, as well as her decisions dealing with Syria, Iraq and Libya.

The survey results suggest that the candidates’ biggest vulnerabilities are issues with deeper roots than the some of the latest campaign-trail attacks making headlines.

The survey was conducted Sept. 16-19, after considerable media attention was paid to Mrs. Clinton’s pneumonia diagnosis and to complaints that her campaign tried to keep her health status a secret. Also in the news at the time was Mrs. Clinton’s statement that half of Mr. Trump’s supporters were “deplorables.”

When voters in the survey were asked which of four statements reflected their biggest concern about Mrs. Clinton, just 8% cited her recent health problems and 9% pointed to her comment describing Trump supporters.

Voters were much more worried about two issues that have been central lines of attack throughout the campaign: 36% were most concerned about her judgment and decisions on Syria, Iraq and Libya; 29% picked her use of a private email server.

Asked about Mr. Trump, just 6% said their top concern was his refusal to release his income tax returns—a major point of attack by Democrats, who say he is withholding his records because he has something to hide. Mr. Trump has said he is not releasing his tax returns because he is being audited, though there is nothing stopping him from doing so during an audit.

Instead, voters are concerned about broader issues that the Clinton campaign has long said show that Mr. Trump is not fit for public office.

The poll found that 33% of voters said their top concern was whether Mr. Trump has the temperament to be commander in chief, while 27% were most concerned about his language about women, immigrants and Muslims.

Some 13% were most concerned about Mr. Trump’s praise for Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Asked in a separate question to say whether a particular issue was a major concern or no concern at all, Mr. Trump’s comments about women, immigrants and Muslims was cited most as a concern. Some 69% said they had major or moderate concerns about the issue, while 30% said they had minor or no real concerns about the comments.

Mrs. Clinton’s use of a private email server was of major or moderate to 64%, while 35% deemed it a minor concern or of no concern.

More of the WSJ/NBC News poll will be released later Wednesday.

Only 6% of voters interviewed by this WSJ/NBC poll cared about Trump's tax returns and only 8% cared about Hillary's health.

I think most of these interviewed were Democrats, and if so, even Democrats no longer care about tax returns from Trump or probably anyone else.

So if the opponents and the CORRUPT MEDIA want to waste their time ranting on and on about Trump's tax returns, have at it, but no one is going to listen, pay attention, or care. So change the subject and get to the real issues, American Voters are actually concerned with, which is who is going to fix our country.
