Ga. soldier accused of leading militia faces Army hearing on charges he killed pregnant wife
Published June 29, 2013Associated Press
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Army prosecutors plan to reveal why a Georgia-based soldier accused of leading an anti-government militia group has also been charged with killing his pregnant wife two years ago.
A legal hearing at Fort Stewart for 21-year-old Pvt. Isaac Aguigui (AH-gee-gee) is scheduled to begin Monday. The Army charged him in April with murder in the July 2011 death of his wife, Sgt. Deirdre Aguigui, and with the death of their unborn child. No other details were released.
Aguigui and two other soldiers face the death penalty in a civilian court for a double slaying nearly eight months after the wife's death. Civilian prosecutors say Aguigui led a militia group funded with money from his wife's life insurance.
The Army hearing will determine whether there's enough evidence for a court-martial.
