Thread: I Feel Sorry For Legal Immigrants

I really feel sorry for Legal Immigrants to America. People who wait and enter our country lawfully, respectfully, decently, and properly.

I can just imagine how they must feel with 20 million illegals here, making them look suspicious, as though they came illegally. It's just not fair.

I want to see President Bush stand up for THEM. They really deserve to have a better situation than what they face once they get here. Twenty million illegal aliens in America....this is unbelievably wrong.

Helping someone new to America is a great feeling, it's something that both American Citizens and Legal Immigrants are being robbed of. This is a big part of the assimilation process. It is important for those of us who are native born Americans and those of us who have immigrated legally to have positive experiences together. We are not being given that chance.

With ALL the illegal immigrants here it is difficult to tell how much legal immigration we should have now. I do believe that a period or a moratorium on immigration would be an important step in helping those who are new assimilate and recover from the illegal fiasco our country has experienced.

yeah i do to, I should know that feeling of how they feel. Even me being born and Raised in Chattanoooga Tenn. My wife, is a Immagrant. K-1 visa, and it took us nearly two years, to get her home. So not only do i feel sorry for the one's that wait to come here legally, but i have the upmost respect and I am so privelage and honored to be there friend.

Scubayons, if you don't mind me asking, how has the illegal situation effected your wife?

Unfortunately, many Americans haven't had a chance to ever experience the really wonderful and positive side of LEGAL immigration. Where I grew up when someone new immigrated to America, in my neighborhood, we really had that positive experience. I remember a family from Greece and one from Germany. The mom from Greece became FAMOUS among us for her delicious Greek cookies, and the family from Germany was so nice too. The mom in that family was an artist (serious artist) and when someone was sick or had a birthday, she would send a hand painted card and on Easter she gave the kids hand painted eggs. They were awsome. Both families had dinner with different neighbors, and they made a beautiful assimilation to America. I mean seriously, within one year....they were assimilated!! That's because of all the contact they had with Americans. Within a year, Scubayons, they were with the program and it was a united little neighborhood.

But today, we are overcome with the foreign experience to the point where we almost turn the other way when we hear that someone is from another country. It's been jammed down our throats, especially in the recent years. I can fully understand how some Americans have just had it. They want an end to this madness.

I do believe because of the irresponsible handling of our borders, we do need a period to recover and to stabalize. But if we ever get to have a level headed person in the White House, Americans, and especially our kids are going to have an opportunity to experience the coming together of people through immigration, instead of the tearing down of our culture and language, a distinct message of disrespect, and a great separation of people within a country.

I believe that could actually happen with Tom Tancredo.

Well, just how it has effected us. Well, for one. After our long separation, it makes us both mad, that nothing is done to people that just walk across the border. Second, Illegals are getting handed stuff on a silver platter. I have had to put my retirement up as collateral for her entry into the country. I could go on and on and on. But She is so fogiving, but i guess that is why she is my better half. I myself, am not a fogiving person, when i know that. People don't respect my country, my fellow citizens. Well at least most, there are the one's that hire illegals and take jobs away from the citizens and the legal immagrants, that have had to wait sometimes for 5 years.

Maybe one day we can all shake each others hands and join in a big celebration, that we have overcome the threat together as one. As brother and Sister Patriots of the modern time and know that we all had part in saving our country.

Hi; Scubayons, congratulations on your waiting out the INS and having a happy reunion. My own story is similar, differing in details. Unfortunately my story did not survive the uprooting and waiting that accompanies legal immigration, not to mention expense. My wife moved back to Canada after being threatened with deportation upon losing her job(I was not yet a citizen, but I was in the "pipeline".)

Hey, if this keeps up, then American citizenship is cheapened, if it isn't dollar store quality by now. I have pointed this out to every immigration official I have spoken to, they agree. While in theory my oath to uphold the US Constitution is real, the reality is that anyone willing to commit unpenalized felonies can get the same thing and even more when you consider accessing largesse and programs designed specifically for illegal aliens. It is humiliating. Plus, you don't need to speak English or be understandable to anyone but your citizen paid for interpreter.

We immigrants came from countries, some of them fine and upstanding. There is always returning if things don't change. Feel sorry for yourselves, born Americans, because after 8 years of bush and his nonsense......,

my neighbors are from Iran. He was married to a girl from the south and loves southern cooking and the family gatherings. His brothers, mother and sisters have been here for years -- at least 25 years or more but his wife now has only been here a few years. She speaks English but it's hard for me to understand her and they have those funny names, but he told me to just call him Ben.

They fly their American flag and he supported the war in Iraq.

It's horrible, but the illegal immigrants have completely ruined the lives of those who come here legally. Forever, they will always be looked on with suspicion. It's just human nature. How does one distinguish between illegal and legal. It's not like you can ask them to whip out papers to prove they are here legally. I really feel sorry for them.
It would be nice if we had a place for articles about immigrants that came here LEGALLY. Not only would they be interesting stories, but it would give us all a chance to congratulate and welcome LEGAL newcomers to America.

My father often witnessed many of the non english speaking contractors and/or helpers at the flooring company he represented (hired mainly by home depot) , speak badly of the workers who were learning english and/or attempting to speak english to the heads of the company rather than rely on my dad for interpretting. They would call them suck ups. Oh yes, and/or ass kissers. Many of the corporate big dogs expect that if you are bilingual that your job should also include company interpreter regardless of whether or not it was in your job description. My dad got annoyed by it but would do it because the company he worked for payed him an automatic 1,000.00 dollar a week salary whether he made that or not. My dad was an honest floor installer. He would not do the floor if he could not guarantee it for 10 years-he went by the book and was certified by manufacturers such as armstrong, amtico, pergo, etc. My dad had me be his helper. The mexican workers would often call me the mule(contractor slang for helpers). My dad would then say, "At least with my daughter, I dont have to repeat myself 3 times and she does not comprehend directions at the two speeds of slow and slower. Customers liked us because we unlike the "playing stupid non-english speaking contractors"(keep in mind, these were people sent to people's homes who could not communicate with customers), did not mind talking to them, and had a sense of humor. Often times, they would ask us about where we were from, and how they liked us and respected our honesty etc. We always had many referrals. unmotivated illegals who allow themselves to be degraded seem to be able to get away with discriminating legal immigrants as well as taking jobs from americans. They often protest when a latino from a country other than mexico is more qualified for a job and/or accepted by a college over them.
