Immigration not issue; illegal immigration is

Historically, immigration has not been a problem. But people who illegally hire cheap labor "under the table" and those who won't obey the laws of our nation are a problem.

We continue to hear about the need for more schools -- a need that taxpayers are going to be asked to fund. How much of the overcrowding is due to the number of children of illegal immigrants in our public education system? Since illegal immigrants who give birth to a baby in America become the parents of an American citizen, opening the way for the family to become eligible for Medicaid for two years, it is not hard to understand why schools will be unable to keep up with ever-increasing growth, no matter how many schools we build.

For those who argue that we can't make it without this cheap labor, let me remind you that we did it before, and we can do it again. As for the reader whose grandparents came to America in the 19th century, please note that her grandparents came legally, learned how to speak English, and as she said, "worked their way into the American dream." There is no comparison between those who came to America this way and illegal immigrants today.

I hope South Carolina soon will take a strong stand to enforce the laws that will protect our nation. Going to the root of the problem will be more effective than treating the symptoms with a never ending drain on America's taxpayers.

The illegals and their supporters NEVER acknowledge, EVEN TACITLY, that "illegal" IS the KEY to this WHOLE issue!
