Ivy League professor calls Carson a 'coon'

An Ivy League professor said that Ben Carson should win the "coon of the year" after the 2016 hopeful supported allowing Confederate flags at NASCAR events.

In a tweet sent out last Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania religious studies professor Anthea Butler, wrote "If only there was a 'coon of the year' award ..." when responding to Daily Beast editor-at-large Goldie Taylor's tweet containing a link to a Sports Illustrated article on the issue.

"Swastikas are a symbol of hate for some people too … and yet they still exist in our museums and places like that," Carson said during an event with Richard Petty in North Carolina last Monday. "If it's a majority of people in that area who want it to fly, I certainly wouldn't take it down."

Obviously, Butler disagreed with the famed neurosurgeon, who currently sits second in the Washington Examiner's latest power ranking, behind only Donald Trump.

UPenn Professor calls God “a white racist God with a problem” after Zimmerman verdict

    By Arrianne Talma | July 16, 2013 | Comments

    George Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict
really isn’t sitting well with one Ivy League professor — so much so that she now believes God “is a white racist…with a problem” who “is carrying a gun and stalking young black men.”
Anthea Butler, a religious studies professor at the University of Pennsylvania, made those comments in a post on Religious Dispatches on Sunday, where she is a contributing editor.

According to Butler, the not-guilty verdict has given new light to a book she read when she was a seminary student, the Rev. Dr. Bill Jones’ “Is God a White Racist? A Preamble to Black Theology.”

Butler noted she was taken aback by the book the first time she read it, but “now, as a wiser, older professor looking at the needless death of Trayvon Martin, I have to say: I get it.”

“God ain’t good all of the time,” Butler wrote. “In fact, sometimes, God is not for us. As a black woman in a [sic] nation that has taken too many pains to remind me that I am not a white man, and am not capable of taking care of my reproductive rights, or my voting rights, I know that this American god ain’t my god. As a matter of fact, I think he’s a white racist god with a problem. More importantly, he is carrying a gun and stalking young black men.”

Butler, who is a frequent guest on MSNBC and CNN, also went on to correlate the death of Trayvon Martin to Christianity, which she argues has been a proponent of racism throughout its history.

“As a historian of American and African-American religion, I know that the Trayvon Martin moment is just one moment in a history of racism in America that, in large part, has its underpinnings in Christianity and its history,” she wrote.

She also took a strong stance against conservative Christians in particular and what she called the “American god,” stating that he wants to “erase race, make everyone act ‘properly’ and respect… laws that [conservative Christians] made to crush those they consider inferior.”

The UPenn prof specifically signaled out the National Rifle Association, the Koch Brothers, and the economic practice of capitalism as perpetrators of this, arguing they helped foster an environment that resulted in Martin’s death.

Butler continued with her rant on Twitter Monday as well, posting, “y’all take care of the KKKlan Twitter egg avi’s till I return. I see my sheet they don’t like me calling out their racist god #toobad.”

I thought I had seen her before. It seems that she should consider some sort of counseling for her out of control racism. JMO
