Jindal takes on immigration in first super PAC ad: 'They should learn English'

Republican presidential candidate Bobby Jindal didn't mince words in his first super PAC ad. In a 30-second ad from Believe Again, the Louisiana governor expresses concerns about our "broken" immigration system, as he works to position himself as one of the most ideologically conservative candidates in the GOP field.

"I think our immigration system is broken," Jindal says in the ad. "If folks want to immigrate to America, they should do so legally. They should adopt our values. They should learn English. And they should roll up their sleeves and get to work."

The system is not "broken". There is a deliberate failure to enforce. I would like to hear from Governor Jindal and others that the government at every level has failed to enforce immigration laws and discourage illegal immigration. I would like to hear that we will not be importing poverty or individuals from cultures that cannot or will not assimilate, etc.

In the article, Governor Jindal mentions being tired of "hyphenated Americans". So true.

Bobby Jindal Is ‘Tired Of Hyphenated Americans’

    11:34 AM 06/29/2015
    Josh Fatzick

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal is in Iowa this week and he is hitting in hard with three town hall appearances across the state and a new television ad where he tells Iowans how “tired of hyphenated Americans” he is.

“I’m tired of hyphenated Americans,” Jindal said in the ad. “We’re not Indian-Americans or African-Americans or Asian-Americans. We’re all Americans.”

Jindal goes on to describe his own immigrant parents and how, when they came to America, they did it because they wanted to be Americans.

“The folks who want to immigrate to America, they should do so legally, they should adopt our values, they should learn English and they should roll up their sleeves and get to work,” Jindal said.

The ad, sponsored by the Believe Again Super Pac supporting the Lousiana governor, reportedly cost over $500,000 and is set to air on cable and broadcast television across the state.

A recent poll conducted by Bloomberg Politics and the Des Moines Register showed that immigration was a pretty big issue for Republican Iowa voters, with 85 percent saying they want candidates to spend a lot of time talking about it.

The budget deficit and national defense are the top issues Republicans want to hear candidates talk about, according to the poll, with around 94 percent of likely Republican voters saying they want to hear candidates ideas in those areas.

Iowa is not a very diverse state, according to numbers from the United States Census Bureau. Estimates from the agency show the state to be nearly 93 percent White, around 3 percent Black, 5.5 percent Latino and 2 percent Asian.

In 2012, The Pew Research Center estimated that there were roughly 40,000 illegal immigrants in Iowa. While illegals accounts for just 1.4 percent of Iowa’s population, 30 percent of the entire immigrant population in Iowa is illegal.

Last week, Jindal made waves when he said he thinks America should get rid of the Supreme Court after the high court ruled that gay marriage should be legal in all 50 states.

“Marriage between a man and a woman was established by God, and no earthly court can alter that,” he said. “Hillary Clinton and The Left will now mount an all-out assault on Religious Freedom guaranteed in the First Amendment.”

Who told you that? Where did you get this idea? The defendants in this lawsuit didn't sue God, they sued a government depriving them of equal legal rights. Government-recognized marriage is not a religious teaching from God, it's a man-made idea, and in the old days, the government had nothing to do with it. Only in modern times did government get involved in marriage licenses.

Each state and the District of Columbia have laws for applying for a marriage license. A legal marriage provides benefits to both parties and is a legal, binding contract. Marriage licenses were not issued in the United States until the mid-1800s. In 1923, the Federal Government passed the Uniform Marriage and Marriage License Act. It was not until 1929 that every state had marriage license laws conforming to Federal standards. For the first time, every marriage in order to be legally recognized by the Federal Government had to be licensed.
Sorry Bobby, but that's a little late in the game for it to have had anything to do with God. It has only to do with legal rights pertaining to contracts, and legal and financial issues during the marriage and upon death and divorce.

I don't suppose you all see that you're turning something nice and what people hope to be an important wonderful step in their lives into something more and more people don't want anything to do with. You've made it ugly because you've made a part of religious bigotry, busy-bodiness, and authoritarianism which most Americans really don't care much for.

You might want to "think on these things".

I was listening to Bobby and starting to like him but then he spoke up about abortion and marriage and I just stopped listening. Marriage was NOT a religious right to start but certain religions took it over to push god. The bible and Christianity has been around a couple millennia at most while forms of marriage far longer and in countries that hadn't even heard about Christianity when it did start up. However their wasn't ever a government recognized marriage until benefits started rolling in and religion taking hold of many governments. Also while abortion may be against the bible and Christian beliefs as some say, or as others say that life starts the moment one has sex (after all the bible said it was a sin for a man to spill his seed so even pulling out would be a sin).... its not everyone else's religion or even their religious take on the issue. How about freedom of religion without one persons religious beliefs pushed on others? I may personally agree to limits on abortion come a specific time (friend recently had an early term premie at 7 months and the baby is doing fine) but each to their own right?

Also I find it interesting that Jindal instead of talking on how he would actually fix the immigration issue just attacks how others have handled it and makes the base point of securing the border. Makes me think he's for mass Amnesty as well but I'm not sure on it and would like to know more.

Still I think Jindal has no chance simply because he lacks the name recognition and as such the major media will keep him along with others in the dark to mainstream voters.

Yes, instead of spending his time trying to tell gay couples and pregnant women how to live, he should have worked up a plan on how to tell illegal aliens to leave our country.
