I remember as far back as 2000, McCain was comparing himself to TR. The only sense I can make of it is that Teddy was a "progressive" Republican, and McCain is a liberal Republican. BUT Roosevelt differed from the Republicans of his time because he cared about the American working people. McCain clearly does not. He cares about globalist corporations who want to destroy us. And on immigration they could not possibly be further apart.

To see past our current conumdrums, we have to see the past clearly. This requires the sacrifice of some sacred cows. We all like TR for his kick-ass, American first and only attitude - but the story continues after that. Through the force of his personality, TR greatly expanded the power of the Executive Branch. Only after this guy did we start to regard the president as the "interpreter of the will of the people" - whether the people agreed with it or not - instead of the Congress (a body of much greater berth and disparity of opinion) as the will of the people. TR is the necessary bridge between the founding ideals and that of today.

If you have worries about Obama dictating the flow of policy in this country, we cannot treat TR as an automatic, no questions asked ally. He was not an advocate of the separation of powers. He was as Caesarian as Lincoln. His weak and fragile disposition may make a good story, but the end results of his presidency was the consolidation of power over YOU. TR was the necessary flag-draped trigger.
