Polling and Experts Make Clear: Latino Voters Showed Up & Saved the Senate for the Democrats

On Press Call, Experts and Election Night Polling Answer How and Why Latinos Voted in Eight States

Washington, DC – Latino Decisions and experts in Latino civic participation and immigration reform gathered yesterday on a press conference call to analyze Latino voter turnout in the 2010 elections, assess what motivated Latinos to vote, and answer what Tuesday night’s results mean for the future of immigration reform and Latino political engagement. The call also featured a detailed analysis of election night polls in 8 states conducted by Latino Decisions that details how and why Latino citizens voted in eight states – AZ, CA, CO, FL IL, NM, NV, and TX.

On the press call held yesterday, Gary Segura of Latino Decisions highlighted that Latinos voted for Democrats over Republicans by roughly a three to one margin and noted that, “Latinos may have saved the Senate for Democrats. They certainly saved Harry Reid – about 10% of the overall vote in Nevada were Latinos voting Democrat. Overwhelmingly, Latino voters were there to support Latino community instead of either party and felt that the immigration debate and accompanying anti-Latino sentiment drove them to the polls on Election Day.â€

Again it is about a specific "race" . It is not about Hispanics voting, it is about illegal foreign nations voting and changing our election process.

Makes no sense, they come here to get away from left, socialist leaning countries for a "better life" and then go to the polls to vote for the same thing they left.

If Latino Voters saved Harry Reid's seat in the Senate for the Democrats, then this is good to know. Now we'll know who to blame for any damage he causes our country through his pro-illegal alien follies. I don't care what you want to call yourselves, but when you or anyone else take an action whether it's a vote or donation or protest or a lobbying effort or a hiring or an aiding or an abetting or a advocacy to encourage, protect or proliferate illegal immigration into the US, then you're not a "Latino voter", or any other kind of "voter", you're just a plain ole useless traitor.

Now I don't believe American Hispanics vote this issue any differently than any other American, so the "Latino Voters" Harry is indebted to are illegal alien voters or immigrants voting illegally.

Also, I don't want to hear a Republican or GOP leader ever spew the words "Latino Vote". I want no more of this chasing votes by ethnic or race groups. Republicans never ever chased votes this way before because it's racist which is why the Democrats who did have all those ethnic and race based obsessed members in their party. Republicans don't for the simple reason we didn't want people in our party wanting special rights based on their race, creed or national origin. Remember, it was Republicans who wrote and passed the 14th and 15th Amendments because that is and has been our "world view" since the beginning of our party because that's how we've always viewed people, no matter what their race, creed or national origin is or what they want to call or label themselves.

Several anti illegal candidates won all over this country , Why didn't the hispanic vote give them the boot?

Harry won in Nevada because the seiu rigged the machines , pure and simple

    Also union thug tactics

Lots of hispanics in Arizona and yet Brewer easily got in

They truly are not smart enough to understand why the US is a better place than Mexico, so they vote based on emotion (race).

Amen. Plus I do not believe it is such a bad thing that the Republicans did not capture the Senate, nor that Pelosi intends to stay on in the house. With a radical Democrat president a totally Republican controlled Congress would be blamed by the media and the far left for all of Obama's shortcomings, and the falllacy and danger of his agenda. Moreover, the Republicans have enough votes to stop any radical bill by the Democrats in the House, and can filibuster in the Senate as well, plus use the filibuster to stop any more radical judges being appointed or radical treaties being approved (nuclear disarmament with Russia, for example). If the Republicans play it smart they should be able to generate productive legislation that will improve the economy and reduce unemployment, and if Obama/Reid/Pelosi block these attempts, show them as the obstructionists who are continuing the same dysfunctional approach to our nation's problems that cost their party 64 House and 6 Senate seats on Nov 2. The Republicans can legitimately claim a mandate; Obama/Reid/Pelosi cannot.
