    A Letter To The Editor

    Letters to the editor
    Illegal immigration's ill-effects

I have some words of advice for Mr. Bellinger ("Immigrants benefit Spokane," June 6): "Be careful what you wish for." After living for over 40 years in Southern California, I watched my hometown go from 100 percent English-speaking to 90 percent Spanish-speaking. I could no longer read the billboards or the advertisements.

I saw my neighborhood degrade into a place that I was ashamed of. I watched high school students raise the Mexican flag with the American flag turned upside down below it. I've witnessed mothers allowing their children to relieve themselves on storefronts and in parking lots for all to see. My 13-year-old son was threatened with his life if he "didn't get out of Mexico."

Just like the politicians, Mr. Bellinger, one cannot begin to comprehend the effects of illegal immigration unless one has lived in the thick of it. I have. My husband and I gave up a successful business, a beautiful home, our family and friends to move here and start a new life. Some may call me xenophobic or racist. I assure you I am neither. I am, however, fed up. I love my country and wish for it to remain the United States of America!

Excellent letter that gets to ground level and the heart of this matter. Not a single Congressmen, much less this President have "walked the walk".

Every pro-amnesty senator should be required to live in the neighborhood this person fled from for at least a month.....see what they think after that.

Maybe we should send a copy of this letter to all the Senators and the Prez.

Many of the senators just have to live in places in and around DC. You cannot even get served lunch in some places unless you speak spanish and uno taco does not work.
