BLITZER: Check in with Lou Dobbs to see what's on his mind right now. His show begins in an hour.

Lou, when you take a look at this contest right now, independent voters out there, whether the moderate center on both sides or people who just don't see themselves as Republicans or Democrats, how do you think this is going to break when it comes down to the two person contest?

LOU DOBBS, CNN ANCHOR: Well, for the two-person contest moving into the general election, you know, I think you've got two candidates who are going to have to move quite a distance to get to the center. Independents in this country live at the center of the country as do most Americans. And these candidates, whether it's Obama, whether it's Clinton, whether it's McCain or even Huckabee, they got a ways to go to get to the center.

BLITZER: Because McCain's reputation out there is really as sort of a maverick and independent. He's gone against the White House on several issues. He's gone against his fellow Republicans on several issues, one of two Republicans to vote against the Bush tax cuts in 2001, as you remember. Only Lincoln Chafee, the former senator from Rhode Island, joined him on the Republican side.

    DOBBS: Right.

BLITZER: Does that appeal to the independents out there?

DOBBS: I don't think so. I don't think so at all. I think that maverick thing is - you know I think most Americans and you know all of us can really only speak for ourselves but I truly believe most Americans want reason. They want compassion. And they want people who are concerned about a government that is not representing the majority in this country. They want the national interest represented. Not special interests or ethnocentric interests.

They want the common good represented. And they're desperate for that. I think we all are. The partisanship that is playing out this year, frankly, these candidates, as you know I'm an independent. I'm a populous. I don't have a dog in the hunt as I've said time and time again but I think these are amongst the most disappointing candidates we could have possibly put forward from a nation of 300 million people.

BLITZER: So does that mean a viable third party alternative candidate is not going to necessarily emerge or will emerge?

DOBBS: I happen to believe that a third party candidate will emerge because there is such a void here in leadership and that I think it's almost a certainty.

BLITZER: All right. But it's not going to be Lou Dobbs, right?

DOBBS: Well, as I have said before, you never say never and I might be a candidate last resort but I'm sure as heck not a candidate now. thank you very much.

BLITZER: Lou Dobbs, thanks. We'll see you here on CNN in one hour. Lots of news coming up on his program "LOU DOBBS TONIGHT." Lou, thanks very much.

I'd be all for it....IF....we think he can REALLY WIN. We would ALL need to drop our support for Ron Paul or Huckabee and get behind him for him to have any real chance. Is that possible?

One thing's for sure.....if WE cannot find SOMEONE who most ALL Republicans and many Independents will vote for along with some Democrats who just cannot go with the present choices of the Democrats................FACE IT.....Obama will be the next president.

If Lou dobbs is seriously thinking about it, it would be greatly appreciated and necessary for him to step forward SOON.

In about six months we will be getting ready to have Obama become the "president elect".

We cannot afford to meander around anymore unless we're willing to accept the reality of what will happen....President Obama.

CAN WE, WILL WE UNITE together? Otherwise, we know what we face.

Talking about "nice ideas" is one thing. But we have to make it happen and that in itself with all of the candidates we've had and I guess still have isn't going to be easy.

If we want the best possibility to give our country a fighting chance for a better future we're going to have to be brutally honest with ourselves.

Thank you for posting the transcript. You cold tell that Wolf Blitzer is acting as the voice of the opposition with his "McCain is dandy and it wont be you lou" questions / statements. Blitzer is trying to sell McCain.

    Ron Paul

I would say Ron Paul supporters are with Ron Paul all the way to the convention. after that..who knows? I don't think I could vote for someone who insists on staying in that war. What does Lou Dobbs say about the economy? I want to be rid of the IRS and the Fed. If he doesn't share the philosophy of Ron Paul...I couldn't vote for him. Id still have to go with the Libertarian Candidate. We are tired of the same old same old.

I may have missed it somewhere on the forum, so I would like to ask......
How does Lou actually stand on the 'specifics' of the immigration issue? I just thought that maybe I had better take a more serious look at how he would handle the issue from the top to the bottom.

    1. Would he build a physical border?

    2. Would he send the military to the border to protect the citizens along that border who are afraid to leave their property, and in some cases walk out of their homes? Their children are almost imprisoned in their own homes for fear of the IA criminals crossing in their yards.

    3. Will Lou IMMEDIATELY see to it that the citizens across this country are protected from the invaders. After all there have been 45,000 citizens killed by illegal aliens since 9/11. Our safety should be Lou's first consideration, way before lead in toys, and changing Iraq.

    4. Will Lou Dobbs free Ramos and Compean the second day he takes office?

    5. Will Lou stop the Golden Anchor Baby sham?

    6. etc., etc., etc.,

These are just a tiny bit of the questions I personally would have for Lou Dobbs, before I could vote for him.

It is one thing hearing what I 'want' to hear from a candidate, and it is something else, hearing what the candidate actually says when pinned down to specifics.

I would say Ron Paul supporters are with Ron Paul all the way to the convention.
I have no doubt about it.

And I think those of us, which I am one, I respect and like Ron Paul very much, although I have sgnificant doubts that he will make it to be president....but I guess anything is POSSIBLE, but because of my doubts on this possibility I try to get behind someone with what I see as having a chance of winning in order to stop Obama, which as president I see as someone who could REALLY take our country down some extremely dangerous avenues and situations and some if not most or many of these will never be able to be turned around again.

My question is....to Ron Paul supporters is if he cannot or does not win, will there be any regrets for not having tried to join others in supporting another candidate in order to stop Obama from winning the election and becoming the next president?

The other question I have is, if Ron Paul clearly cannot win by convention time, in other words, if it clearly becomes mathmatically impossible for him to win, will most Ron Paul supporters just vote for him anyway and accept Obama?

I'm just curious and my question is not to get anyone angry, but something that I've noticed about a lot of Ron Paul supporters is that they seem to want to stand by their man, to the point that I get lost here....when I don't see that they seem to be bothered by the fact that we will most likely get Obama as president if they hang on to election day to a candidate who might most likely not stand ANY chance of becoming the next president.

I ask this though because I truly wonder, with the agenda Obama has for our country that if he does become president, whether there will ever be anyway to turn around what he does.

He will appoint the liberal judges, and that can't be turned around, and he will grant amnesty and allow their family members to come to the USA and it will not be possible to turn that around.

At that point, after Obama largely transforms many possibilities for America, I would think that a candidate such as Ron Paul with his agenda and philosophy would be even more difficult to elect with the new voters in America who will most likely demand and want a more socialist type of government.

These are the things I've been thinking about.

I guess it seems to me that this election could be our last stand regarding many things that we all seem to believe in and to not believe in. I guess many Ron Paul supporters think that the changes Obama makes will not be terribly wide sweeping and permanent or which will not be extremely difficult to turn around.....if they are at all even possible to turn around.

But with the judges he will choose and the huge number of people who will be given voting rights.....it seems only logical that future elections will be effected in a way as to make having a Ron Paul type of president even more unlikely than it is appearing to seem to be today.

I'm wondering how Ron Paul people feel about these things. I would welcome hearing your opinions, and what you think about my thoughts regarding this. Thank you.
