Louie Gohmert: ‘Completely Defund’ Obama’s ‘Monarchical’ and Unconstitutional Amnesty

Congressman Louie Gohmert, strongly disliked by the entrenched political establishment in both parties, but loved by many in the pro-liberty, pro-Constitution, grassroots Tea Party movement, said that Congress should use their power of the purse to stop Obama from implementing his threat to use unauthorized royal edicts to make millions of illegal aliens suddenly legal.

“It will be a disaster if he [Obama} acts on amnesty, violating the Constitution, violating the law, and I've been encouraging the [Republican] leadership–let’s do a short-term CR [continuing resolution] on December 11, and if he’s acted without authority and without congressional action to change the law unconstitutionally, then we just need to completely defund any effort at his monarchical effort, and make it a crime to spend money to create the amnesty, or to act on the amnesty in any way,” Gohmert told Newsmax TV‘s Steve Malzberg on Thursday.

The Congressman from Texas, who won re-election by crushing his Democrat challenger by an amazing 55% on Tuesday, 77.48% to 22.52%, also revealed to Malzberg that he’s running for the RSC (Republican Study Committee), and didn’t totally rule out running for John Boehner’s speakership.

Polling this summer showed the American people are overwhelmingly against amnesty, with 81% of Americans believing that Obama’s border crisis is a serious problem, while 77% want illegal aliens returned to their home country.
