someone posted on another thread an article from a local newspaper stating that opponents were standing outside of the polling places getting names of the people who voted.
Can someone confirm this? Isn't this illegal?

But opponents—while conceding that illegal immigration is a problem—maintained that this is a national issue and citizens who want to change the law should lobby the U.S. Congress.

"This is not the responsibility of the City of Farmers Branch or of any other municipality; this is the responsibility of the federal government," said ordinance opponent Elizabeth Vialla Franca. "For any municipality to try to take the job of the federal government is not going to fly."

In final but unofficial reports, the ban was approved by a vote of 68 percent to 32 percent.

Councilman Tim O'Hare, the ordinance's lead proponent, says it sends Congress a message: that if they don't do something about illegal immigration, cities will.

Opponents plan to seek a restraining order to stop the city from enforcing it and try to get the case to trial.

HOWEVER

what i think is stupid is this.... LULAC and all these other hispanic groups are the ones who wanted this issue to go to the voters. yet in the debate on the radio thursday night they said MORE lawsuits will be filed no matter which side won.... now IF the voters spoke and apparently they have, why should LULAC or anyone else be able to say anything since its the voters who voted.... are they taking every voter to court now because the vote didnt go their way???
