Thread: MATT.ORG Email on Obama listening on immigration

Dear friends

The recent appointments to President-elect Obama's White House staff and cabinet have been exciting. Perhaps the most exciting news for supporters of immigration reform is that Obama intends to lend a listening ear to his newly appointed experts when it comes to immigration.

Check out what Obama said about immigration in a recent L.A. Times interview:

We need to get them out of the shadows and put them on some path to legalization…You know, one of the things I want to do -- and I'm very pleased with [Arizona Gov.] Janet Napolitano as the next head of the Department of Homeland Security, because nobody has more experience on these border issues than she does -- I want to discuss with her what our best options are, what our best strategy is, do an evaluation about what's working, what isn't working. And then we'll make a determination from there.

Sounds like a plan to us: listen to the experts and make meaningful reform a priority in 2009. Between Napolitano and Cecilia Muñoz, Obama has put together a team of people who understand and care about this important issue in all its complexity.
