McD's actually checking?
We have had many discussions here about many fast food places that had people that you could barely understand and who could not understand you as the customer, wrong orders constantly and such.
A few days ago. my son and I were out getting some wood chips from someones downed tree's. He was starved (as is usual with a nearly 16 year old) so we stopped at McDonalds for a quick sandwich before we started on our way.
We sat in the back and happened to be next to a group of new potential hires in a group interview with a manager. We could not help but hear the manager say to one kid, although his English was "native" (raised here, but had a green card?), "ok, this is set to expire in a month, and we will want you to bring in your new one to re-verify it, ok?". He then stated he had already sent in his "application paperwork" and was expecting to hear from "them" in about a week.
She then made the statement to the group "I will be verifying all of your information, and letting you know if there are any issues, and if not, you're all good to go".
This was a mixed group of people, and I presume it meant that she was checking ALL ID's with E-Verify. I am impressed she was taking these steps.
So it would seem that with all of the public pressure, and likely the fear of being raided, made at least McDonalds start doing what was needed to verify their employees. My mother stated she also has noticed some marked changes in the staffing of all the fast food places locally, mainly with American, English speaking kids or adults.
The public pressure I think had a good deal to do with this, but also the fear of a bad reputation for being raided, and of course the legal aspect of that too.“In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. Let us hope that more employers will be doing the right thing to avoid any problems and to avoid negative publicity and potential legal situations that can result from illegal alien hiring and the breaking of immigration law. It really is a win-win for everyone, including customers who are sick or the language difficulties when ordering and the suspicions of employees being illegally here taking jobs from Americans and legal entries.
Galatians 6:9Matthew 19:26
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

The McDonalds in Vancouver are filled to the brim with the new Canadian working class , Phillipinos . Yes they speak english but you need a translator to understand them . They start at 9 dollars an hour and all the filet o fishes they can eat . I would pay my daughter 9 dollars an hour NOT to work there

AE, regarding your story, you may be correct that they are using e-Verify or perhaps they are verifying info some other way, but could it be that the potenial hires were 15 years old and needed a work permit, or something like that, and that's what he was referring to?
Which city/state do you live in? I ask because I'm happy to hear that people who live near you (or near your mother) are starting to use more local American workers.
Take Care,
Ostrich

I guess it all depends on where the MdD is located. The McD's up the street from me have people who can barely speak English.
RIP Butterbean! We miss you and hope you are well in heaven.-- Your ALIPAC friends

We live outside of Portland, Oregon, but this was in Portland.
The group this woman was talking to were all college age, 18 and older, as most of them spoke of class schedules.
She spoke of "verifiying" all of their ID's to be exact. Which says to me that she was doing it across the board, which is good, no accent does not necessarily mean they are here legally (someone raised here could have no accent, but be here legally from childhood...).
bigpcanuck, Does Canada have something similar to E-Verify?“In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned. When his cause succeeds however, the timid join him, For then it costs nothing to be a Patriot.â€

Mc D has NO FEAR of being raided, NoBama has stopped the raids. If they speak bad english, then NO, you should not be eating there. Its sad to see people can't plan ahead, and pack a lunch. Fish Sandwich is easy to make yourself and just as cheap as mcdonalds.
4 Fishsticks (Get the good ones)
Tartar Sause
Cheese
Lettuce
Bread
HAmburgers can be made the night before, or make a roast beef sandwich, etc.
Laziness on our part is why McDonalds hires so many illegals and throws MILLIONS at Congress as a lobby group.

Ya;ll know what I mean. No one should be supportin illegals in anyway possible. Not eating fast food is an easy fix.
If WE can't stay away from cheap imported labor, why should the rest of America?
Ya'll set straight now?

Arizonablues, this thread was started by me, and the whole issue was although the manager was doing the checking, all of the kids had no accents, but the one at least did have a green card (meaning he was brought here as a child, although he was not yet a citizen).
So the criteria of having an accent to determine illegal status is an inaccurate way of doing so, and one of prejudice to some degree (someone could be from Canada with no accent we could easily detect and be here illegally.....).“In the beginning of a change, the Patriot is a scarce man, Brave, Hated, and Scorned.
